Avatar

sorry a bit of crap topic but i was just wondering which program everybody uses? I currently have a dodgy copy of ‘Photoshop’ and was thinking about getting ‘Lightroom’! Does anybody have and experience with lightroom? also is there any other programs i should look into before i get one?

GIMP and Paint.Net are 2 budget friendly (free) alternatives.

I use Photoshop CS5 as well, love it!

I used CS6 at work and struggled a little, just gotta get use to where things are and any changes from the previous version!

I use Photoshop CS6. I really love this program and I’ve been learning a lot more about it at school.

Lightroom is a much more functional interface from what I have read (which is little). Photoshop can do everything Lightroom can + more.
Lightroom can do 90% of your photo editing needs.

I personally use PS more for graphic stuff like creating designs, text, posters, and photos too.
I need to vastly improve my PS skills. Im a hack really. And wanna learn much more about actual photo editing.

have a read through some forums about PS vs LR http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1158823

That took me a while as well. But CS6 is way better once you get used to it. What problems are you having?

I love Scott Kelby. He has great books on making photography and or editing easy for laymans. Check out his books on all the various adobe products. http://www.amazon.com/Scott-Kelby/e/B000APPRO4

I find his step by step workflow really interesting and helpful!

His blog post today is pretty interesting!

I use DPP to edit my RAW files (selecting in-camera settings, hightlight/shadow, cropping/levelling, colour settings etc), before transferring my pic into PS for final editing if need be. If you don’t shoot in RAW you may not need Lightroom. Lightroom is similar to DPP - great for your RAW files, but not necessary otherwise. You could edit your image right out of camera in PS if you’re shooting .jpg.

At least that’s how I see it. By no means am I a master photographer, or particularly skilled in post, but that’s what works for me.
