Board size advice

Avatar

Hoping someone on here might be able to give some advice smile

Decided on getting a Jones Mountain Twin for my next season which will be mostly riding in Hokkaido, Japan. Not sure if I should go with the 157 or the 158w, waist difference is 25.3cm vs 25.8cm, I wear a size 11 Nike ZF1, about 6ft and 75KG.

I can pick up the 2013 158w about $110 cheaper at the moment but not sure if it would be the right size or not. Would 3mm of difference in waist width make a noticeable difference in how it rides?

Thanks!

Hey mate,

My initial thought was definitely the 157.

It’s close to an ideal width for your boots (depending on the actual boot). The 258mm waist on the 158W is more than you need.

Would it still ride OK? I’m sure it will. Personally, I wouldn’t want to be on a board wider than I need. 5mm is quite a bit in the world of waist widths.

I know price is a factor, but ignoring the price, the 157 would be better suited. Consider it a long term investment. What’s $100 over the lifetime of the board? Probably less than $1 a day. You might as well purchase the perfect board. Just my opinion. smile

I’d say go the 157 mate. Im 74kgs and rode a 155 and 153 in japan and they rode the pow great. (different boards, but i wasnt sinking with weight/length)

Cheers guys! .
I was already leaning towards the 157, I’m convinced now. Good point with it only really being an extra $1/day LOL

No worries, Mitch. Let us know how you go! And don’t forget to post a photo in the quiver thread when you pick it up.

Just a reminder, the Mountain Twin will be different next season vs this season. If I remember correctly from the catalog, next season’s will have more and longer camber with a 3/4 setback stance.

I’d love to see that catalog, I can’t find much info on the 2013/14 - where did you see it?
All I saw was it had the same 20mm set back and a .1mm bigger ww, but that’s just from Evo’s store specs, figured I’d have to wait until it hits the northern hemisphere for more info..

http://zuzupopo.com/xe/catalog/85843 there you go. Last year’s version, the camber is only between the feet or at most up until middle of the inserts and the amount of camber is also very minimal (2012 version, can’t remember the 2013 version).

Cheers mate, appreciate it!
I emailed Jones as well, they confirmed it’s pretty much the same board as last season except for the .1mm extra ww and new graphic. The camber/camrock shape changes and setback were made last year and stayed the same for the 2013/14. I’ll just wait to get a new 157 if I can’t track down a cheaper one from last season

I’ll see what I can track down for you as well.

Thanks mate, I probably should have mentioned I’m in Canada though haha. It will probably be cheaper for me to just grab one retail here or from the states before I head to Japan.

Thanks for posting the info, Amine. Such a sick board. The perfect all-round board for Whistler I reckon. I need to demo one of these babies.
