Yeah no worries mate I know central will let you know more when I’m home on a computer. With 5 of you I would definitely be looking into hiring a car it will open up a whole world of possibilities and make transfers/getting to each resort a piece of piss.

Yeah definitely look into it mate will work out really cheap and then you don’t have to stuff around with shuttle busses, or worry about transferring from Nagano to myoko then to nozawa and you can also do extra side trips to Hakuba/Shiga/Snow monkeys etc

Central should be fine (if you hadn’t already booked I would have recommended Moc) It’s close the the main “town” bit which is pretty small anyway but means getting food/alcohol/onsens will be easy. Bit more of a pain to get to the resorts as the one it is near (Akakura Onsen) is really only for beginners/inters but if you get a car this isn’t such a big deal. Even if you don’t the shuttles are fine.

Where you are staying is quite a distance to the other side of town (where the bigger shopping centres etc are) I tried walking/running to it one day and it’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done (walls of snow on both sides me on the road with buses/trucks/cars speeding by whilst getting bombed by snow falling off trees overhead).

No not really in Nozawa but it would come in mighty handy in Myoko as well as opening up another world of exploring the Nagano region. I would have loved to have done Seki Onsen on a Pow day but working out how to get there last minute was a pain.

It will let them follow wherever the best snow falls are with minimum fuss.

No worries,

Akakura Central (where you are staying) from memory is up the end of town that is closer to Akakura Onsen (which is the worst of the main resorts in Myoko) It’s not terrible though you could still definitely walk to Kanko from there though.

MOC where I stayed is directly across the road from the gondola at Akakura Kanko. I found this handy for when I wanted to get first tracks as I didn’t have to wait for any shuttles I literally walked across the road and I was on the mountain. The downside of MOC is you have a 10minute walk into the main strip for dinner each night.

Both Central and MOC have really easy access to the Shuttle which gets you to the other resorts. Sugi and Ike are definitely worth heading too. As I said above I wish I’d done Seki (apparently amazing on a pow day) but I couldn’t easily get there.

A car makes all of this redundant as you can easily get anywhere in Myoko (or the surrounding areas)

I always thought it would be a bit of a drive to Hakuba from Nozawa?????

Maybe if I was spendin 3+ weeks in Nagano, I reckon a car might be the go?????

But I suppose havin 4 peeps it will make the cost pretty comparable to buses etc, all depends on the itinerary?????

Yeah it’s certainly not just around the corner but the main selling point is the convenience and I’d hazard a guess it will work out very comparable in price to other transfers just much easier.

Without knowing lanos itinerary you could put in an argument for shink from Tokyo to Nagano (they could drive directly from Tokyo but not sure how confident they are with that), Pick up car from Nagano, Drive to Myoko and have the convenience of the car the whole time they are there. Visit things like the snow monkeys + other local attractions. Drop car off at the end of Myoko (guessing it would have to be Nagano?) then head to Nozawa where the car isn’t really needed.

Over at the other forums the experience Japanese snowgoers will hire a car whenever it’s the least bit feasible and that’s with smaller groups than 5.

It also leads to more time on snow, and a wider choice of places to eat neither of which are a bad thing in my books!

Cool Makes sense Dave, i have changed the hotel to MOC just now so i will be staying at MOC.

Man Liquid Snow tours are so good and easy to deal with….. and i think quiet goot with prices.
