Cool interview.

Would have been nice for him to be honest and say slopestyle is a better representation of snowboarding in general. Way more people riding the parks as opposed to the pipe. I don’t think it takes away anything away from what he’s achieved. Anyway, he danced around that question nicely.

my thoughts exactly, but i knew as soon as it was asked that he wasn’t going to take anything away from pipe in favor of slopestyle.
i still dont think he’s going to achieve the style needed for a good slopestyle run regardless of what tricks he does, he rides with a pencil up his rectum IMO

Shaun used to kill it in slopestyle. Granted that slopestyle has progressed a lot in recent years, Shaun used to be super stylish. Have you watched “The Shaun White Album”? If not, it’s worth a viewing. His style changed to win gold medals in the pipe—> robot. I also feel his mega tight pants has something to do with it. It just takes away the steeze factor I think. Anyway, he’ll win the gold in pipe but there’s nothing he can do to stop the likes of Mark McMorris and Seb Toots, etc.

good to see Letterman ribbing him about how Ayumu Hirano is.

Ayumu for gold in the half pipe 2014!

@rider26: I agree completely, Shaun used to own slopestyle until he focused completely on pipe. And yeah I think the tight pants factor in the steeze too, if he wore baggy pants like he used to I think he will be more stylish when doing his tricks. I can’t think of any rider who wore skinny pants that have great style.
