Snowboard Help!

Need help with buying a new board. I’m 22, but kind of short for my age (149cm or 4 foot, 10”), weighing about 55kg. I previously had a 137cm sized board, but that was just too big and too hard to control. Have tried a 130cm board, and it seems to suit me. Not sure if I should try a 134cm snowboard? However, it’s difficult to find a 130cm sized womens snowboard, only come in kiddy designs. So just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? My snowboard level is about intermediate.

Welcome to Boardworld LMS!

It is going to be hard to find boards that size. What are the previous boards that you have had/tried (brand/model)?

It may just be a case of trying a different camber profile. Hybrids and rockered boards tend to feel and ride a lot shorter than they are.

I thought that YES made a Basic in those sizes, but after havin a look, this years current range hasn’t got them anymore!!!!!

They used to be the Junior sizes, but were no different in Shape/Graphics/Tech as the bigger Boards!!!!!

Unless ya can source an older Model for sale somewhere?????

The YES Basic is a great board!!!!!

I know the K2 Sky Lite come sin 135. K2 boards have hypertaperd tips. Basically the construction is thinner at the tips so it reduces swing weight, making it feel shorter

I currently have a K2 Kandi 137. I have also tried a Burton 130cm board (rental). What about the roxy inspire 2014? It’s a rocker board and I have heard rocker boards are good for small or lightweight people compared to a camber board?

Hey little-miss-snow, welcome to Boardworld. cool smile

It’s going to be very hard finding a women’s board in the size you want.

What was it about the 137cm board that you found hard to control? Do you think it was purely the size of the board? Have you played around with your stance a bit? Do you know what stance you have on your board? The reason I ask is because it might be the actual board and/or your stance causing the issues.

I don’t think you need to be on such a small board to be honest (talking about a 130cm here). Height can be used as a very rough guide, but weight is a much more important factor. I would suggest getting a slightly larger board (than what you’re looking for), with a soft flex and a full rocker profile. The soft flex and full rocker profile will make the board much easier to turn and handle, and a full rockered board will feel shorter anyway.

I actually think the Roxy Inspire 134 would work great for you. You could also look at the Burton Social 138 (I know it’s bigger than your board but the camber profile will make it feel shorter).

At those sizes you need to be looking at grom’s (kids) boards

nothing wrong with that just make sure you buy bindings that fit the board

FYI kandi is grom board
my wife rides it at the moment
