Try insurance through HBF - we got ours through there which was just over $1000 each for a year. Claimed through them last year when we went to Vietnam and I ended up in hospital and didn’t have a problem at all. We’re going with them cos they’re the only people that will cover our expensive camera gear, but seem to be good for price and cover everything needed!
Thanks guys!
I emailed Whistler Hidden Spa and they seemed pretty interested so i’ll try the others this week.
I booked my flights with STA and got an Air New Zealand flight for $979. It has a stop over in Auckland for 1hr 40mins but the flying time is altogether 18hrs so only 4hrs more than the direct but they have a brand new fleet of planes so they are much better then air canada apparently (we shall soon find out lol)
If you are looking for insurance go to http://www.comparethemarket.com.au they have a pretty good list of insurers and tell you exactly what they include. I’m going with 1cover as they seem to have the most included.
Sent an email to Sun Peaks employment to gauge when jobs will come online and here is the response:
Thanks for the inquiry. Most of our winter job postings are advertised by late August or September. They are posted on our employment page of our site: http://www.sunpeaksresort.com/corporate/work-and-play/opportunities which you can apply to online to any positions that suit your skills. All jobs with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation (SPRC) include an alpine season lift pass. Staff accommodations are offered to employees of SPRC which you can apply to once you are hired.
Feel free to directly contact Lift Operations .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or the Ticketing Department .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for the positions you mentioned.
Private housing rentals and jobs with private companies throughout the village can be found via our local paper http://sunpeaksnews.com/
More information on Sun Peaks Resort can be found at http://www.sunpeaksresort.com/
Hope that helps and good luck!
Not sure what I plan to do. Don’t want to be too eager but at the same time, I don’t want to wait hahaha.
I don’t think that an email to lift op will hurt. I wouldn’t send one to both departments. Show one focus at this stage.
Just say you are really keen on working at Sun Peaks in Lift Ops and you were hoping to be considered.
They are probably lining up their returners first before knowing what they need. You could be lucky and they consider you in the mix of/at the same time as the returners.
hey TJ, decent reply from Sun Peaks, at least you know the options and timeline.. could you put up a copy of your email? just want to see as i plan on sending a few emails over the next few weeks - cheers
Here is the email I sent them. Pretty generic and I tried not to give them too much information.

Hi Sun Peaks,
I am just wondering when jobs will be posted on your website for the upcoming season. I am from Australia and am quite keen to work at your resort as a Lift Operator or a Ticket Inspector. I have a Canadian Visa and Police checks all done.
I would like to gain employment as soon as possible so that I can organise flights, travel insurance and be able to give sufficient notice at my current job.
Please let me know so that I can apply when they are released.
top email, i think i might wait till i get my visa finalised like you did before i send my enquiry, just shows that you are organised etc.
thanks mate
They can’t check anyway. Just say you got it already.
Then if you get knocked back, just say you can’t take the job due to “Family” reasons or something…
No biggy, they will fill it with someone else.
Ok I emailed lift ops. I hope they reply to me
Will keep all in the loop.
gl bro!
Yew I might start emailing around too. Whistler Job fairs are all up…. except whistler. FUAAAAAAAAK they are toying with my heart strings! HAHA
Just saw a compare travel insurance ad on that other website…

6mths rates (make sure you select the ski tab when entering the dates etc.)
Age was asked so I put 27 in.
I think because you can extend 6 month, you can’t shorten 12 month. I haven’t even started looking at insurance yet until I organise my job and flights!
Well just so you know I got 6 mths, when I went to the US the first time. then I went to canada and forgot about it. Got sick had to have ultrasounds and expensive tests like that, not only did i have to pay for it in the first instance but it then became a previous condition that was no longer valid in the new policy.
And you are planing to be gone at least til July sooo Dec to end of july is 8 mths…
