Okay I have had a bit of a think and I am now considering a 18 - 105 lens and using my old 70 - 300 when/if I need it.

I am sure I wont be able to auto focus with the old lens but I don’t think it will be that much of an issue.

I just really don’t like the current lens kit set up of 18 - 55

But maybe the 19 - 200 is over kill?

Thoughts anyone?

The 18-105 is one of the best “kit” lenses I’ve owned - fast autofocus, and sharp as a tack. I still use it quite often. The Sigma 18-200 OS II is also a good alternative as well, which gives you just that extra bit of reach. Quality is about on par, with the Nikon slightly ahead IMHO.

18-200 lens died on the Sydney trip. Devo. Still my fav go to lens for travel. downer

I have a Nikon D5000 and last year replaced the kit lens with a Nikkor 16-85.
Very very happy with the quality of the photos.
although a tad slow (f3.5-5.6.. ) I couldn’t be happier with the results.
