Whistler Winter 2013 - help!

Avatar

I doubt applying directly to the mountain will help as I believe they interviewed direct with the mountain.

But yes a smaller hill could be the way to go.

Maybe. If they have like a database of applicants that they can search and see the persons history. That is if the person searching is computer literate etc.

I think a smaller mountain will be fun, I’m really eager on Sun Peaks but there is a lot of smaller / close to Vanc hills that might be a good option as well! Could meet lots of locals that way rather than the influx of Aussie / British people doing seasons.

Any obvious reasons why your mates got knocked back?

I can only assume not showing commitment for the whole season or seeming like all you wanted to do was party or only wanting to go to snowboard.

I still need to properly catch up with those knocked back but I imagine they’re quite sore about it and won’t want to talk about it..

If you dont represent what Whistler Blackcomb does then chances are slim, while it is a more relaxed/partying/get away type job scene to some extent still have to at least pretend you care about their values.

I spoke to my mate last night and he told me their reasoning for not hiring him was not being focused in the interview and being distracted and for not dressing appropriately and not presenting well.

So suit up people if you can and be as engaging as possible..

I dont think im going to take my expensive suit overseas but a good shirt tie and slacks should do (fingers crossed)

Honestly I don’t even think you need the tie! Collared shirt and some pants that aren’t jeans.

I went to the first Whistler job fair in September last season. I wore jeans, an untucked button up shirt and a pair of Vans - I was one of the most over-dressed people there. I think I only saw two other people in button up shirts.

Last year I think there was only two types of full-time positions left by the time I applied at the September job fair in Whistler (the first one). They call it a ‘job fair’ but you still had to apply online and attend at an interview time, it’s more like speed-interviewing. I guess because of all these companies which take your money to secure jobs and all the interviews in the other cities (Whistler was last) they had filled almost all the full-time positions, only a few back of house (cooks, dishwashers, etc) and some car park attendants were available for full-time. There were a few more options for part-time, I got a PT job in Tickets & Validation.
