It seems the snow bug has bitten the wife this year and she’s keen to give boarding a go on a day when the conditions aren’t suitable for schussing the moguls. What sort of board and set-up would you guys recommend? I’m talking second-hand for now. She’s about 168cm and about 62kg. I guess she’d be looking at board in the low 140s range, pretty flexy and with a forgiving profile eg. reverse camber or camrock?
My partner rides the Burton feather, i think last year’s model and she loves it, suits her down to a t. I’d recommend having a Look into that one. Can’t give you much ideas about others as i haven’t been looking around at boards a lot lately
yeah the feather or maybe the troop? something all-mountain maybe to start with I think.
What about Roxy boards? They seem very popular with the girls.
Has she seen their latest ad… may not want to ride em!
I can link my turns… fall arse over tit constantly on blues and i loved the Burton Flying V

The Burton Feather would be a great first board to look at. Super easy and fun to ride, which is exactly what she’ll want. Soft and forgiving flex, full rocker, directional shape, taper - it’s the perfect beginner’s board.
since Roxy boards are made by mervin, they probably have magnetraction? which is worth getting if you can, I reckon.
I don’t know anything about the different models of roxy boards though, as to which one might be best? but if I could find a beginner board with magnetraction, I’d get that over one that didn’t have it.

Yeah, cords, I rode my new T.Rice last week and I really liked the magnetraction on the icy stuff, too. Going off topic a bit, I think I’ve concluded the board I would like best is basically my YES Tasman with their version of magnetraction, which I think is basically the Greats. That level of flex is just right for me, the length is right for me in Aus (152 or 153) and I really like the feel of camrock. I didn’t mind the c2btx as much as I thought I would but prefer the predictable feel of camrock I think. Anyway, more testing is required!
Back on topic, I will keep an eye out for a second-hand Feather.
My missus rides a K2 Moment, she got it last season its designed at the beginner/intermediate market, its a directional twin flat to rocker which will give her that stability and predictability when flat basing on beginner runs and when first learning to link turns. there a pretty cheap board aswell.
I got mine a Forum Aura, rockered board, quite flexy and the GF finally started to link her turns. The first board she tried was an old Burton Feather, one from the pre rockered Feather days but the rocker seems to help a lot.
Ok I think I’ve got it:
length = between shoulder and chin
flex = soft
profile = reverse camber or similar
K2 womens boards have been quite popular amongst my friends.
Look into the K2 First Lite. Its their entry level board. Flat between bindings and contact points are lifted slightly. I ride this profile and can say its one of the easiest ones ive ever ridden
Or if looking for a board that will be good as a first but will be good for long term progression and freestyle twin the Lime lite
thanks, mate. I doubt the missus will be busting out any rad park moves, but I’ll put those boards on the list.
Mrs Mizu loves her YES Basic 2012, and prob worthwhile checkin to see if there’s one floatin around at a good price?????
It’ll be a great board to both learn and progress on, and also hold some resale value if she decides that snowboardin isn’t for her!!!!! (Although you won’t have to deal with the resale, cause that would be her new husbands problem then)
* Mrs Miz also came of an old Troop!!!!! (Cambered Model)
