Nice write up TJ, people who look at this thread couldn’t have an easier time with all of the preliminary documentation
Cheers buddy, I really wrote this because of how much hassle it has been for me. I can’t believe that there isn’t already pages like this on the internet…
Cheers mate, sent off part one today!
I was actually in Canada earlier this year in Feb and March and I managed to get to Silverstar, the 3 Banff mountains, Kicking Horse and Whistler (Unfortunately only a couple of days there). I loved the vibe in Banff and ended up staying there for about half of my 2 month trip, but later regretted staying for so long because I only got two days of riding in at Whistler towards the end of my trip.
My preferences to do a whole season are Whistler, Banff and Sun Peaks (in that order haha), Just from reading what’s been said about Sun Peaks on here makes it sound like a really sick mountain and I now regret not checking it out!
I saw on the WB website that there’s a job fair on November 1st & 2nd at the Blackcomb Daylodge, so I might apply for that once applications open.
Thanks man I just had a read of it then! The instructions on the IEC website look like they’ve been put together to be as confusing as possible haha
Hey dude, sounds like you had an awesome trip even if you didn’t get too long in Whistler. If you end up doing a season there, maybe having less time there last time will be a blessing in disguise.
With the Whistler job fair, I’d try to get to the end of September one if you can. Pretty sure the early November one is only to fill the positions of the people who last minute bail out or the people who get there and decide it’s not what they want and leave before the season starts. Could be very minimal / sh!tty jobs left.
Be a bit wary with all the stuff you have read here about Sun Peaks. (not trying to turn anyone away) For these reasons:
1. Everything (most) you have read is from me. There might be a bit of bias lol.
2. I’ve never been to Canada. This whole thread is my trying to be as organised and ready as possible etc.
3. I don’t want to do Whistler for a few reasons, none that should turn someone else off Whistler at all (Main ones are that so many people here have done a season, Much larger village loses that close snowfield vibe a bit, Lift lines and Rain down lower mountain.)
4. I talk up Sun Peaks because that’s where I want to go. Therefore convincing myself it’s the right choice. (I do this a lot in real life as well, convincing myself)
5. It should be easier to get a share house in Sun Peaks than Whistler for a decent price. If the others here (ayeshaje and her bf) end up getting jobs as well, we can rent a place for the season and find some people to move in, lowering the cost per person and creating a great group of friends before the season even starts.
If you have any questions etc, let us know. If you end up getting a weekend off and want to come to Sun Peaks, let us know and we might be able to help each other out or something like that
Yeah we’re set on Sun Peaks now (and not just cos of TJ’s biased thread ). Looked into all of them a while ago and was up there with our picks, then decided to go to Whistler, then decided we’d prefer to go to somewhere a bit smaller first (especially since the closest we’ve come to snow is checking out google images). Definitely plan to get to Whistler and Banff too though - don’t plan to be coming home for quite some time :D.
Smaller mountain… We are going to the 2nd biggest in BC hahaha
Don’t worry, as long as you are open to giving it a good go, maybe get a few lessons to begin with, then you will pick it up nice and quick!
Meanwhile, would jobs come out already?

Yep, TJ youre the man
haha u wot m8
I’ve gone with world nomads twice before, claimed once, wasn’t too much of a hassle.

Oath. Maybe thats the first test? Why they didn’t just go with a simple clear 1, 2, 3, list is beyond me.
Shocked to see the fellowship has already been fragmented (re whister/sunpeaks)!
——getting inpatient, is there anywhere we can already apply at?

Depends what you want to do. Anything Whistler based will be at the job fairs. Sun Peaks hasn’t posted anything that’s not ski patrol or snow making supervisor lately. From what I’ve heard, should be within the next 2-3 weeks.
Think we are all getting impatient, would be great to be able to book my flight before they go up $600. I will travel a week later and rush around to save that money if needed. (Or take a 40h Air China flight… Actually I probably would pay the $600 lol.)
Smaller than Whistler was what I was saying

With the Whistler job fair we apply online first or just rock up and interview? Is Sun Peaks pretty solid place to work? My flight has already gon up $100..
I guess I’m mostly interested in Whistler or Bannf but rather get a job somewhere else than go home!
I know I have mentioned this before but it seems people are very focused with the WB job fair..
WB does provide a lot of jobs in Whistler but the hotels, restaurants, bars and tour ops provide many more and are hiring from mid nov-mid december!
Also WB continues hiring after the job fair pretty much all season so its not your only chance to get a job with them..1
WB jobs can be great but if you cant get to the job fair or dont get and interview there are lots of other options!

thanks for confirming this, im unlikely to be there for the fairs and was starting to get a bit worried!

Ahhh alrighty, I’m not sure how I’d go money wise hanging around Vancouver/ Whistler from September til November/ December without a job etc haha, thanks for letting me know!
I’ve heard good things about the parks at Sun Peaks and judging by a few a the videos I’ve seen from there they have an awesome park setup!
Maybe apply for jobs at other resorts like Sun Peaks, Big White or Silverstar (or any on the front page tbh) and then rock up to the WB job fair in November. If you get a job, stay and bail on the mountain you like less etc. Or you could go to one of these other mountains, then use the summer to work somewhere else in Canada and go to Whistler for next season
Sun Peaks has a Rockstar park which is pretty damn big if you look at it on the trail maps and videos. I’m digging it

It’s like you read my mind haha
Big White have a few house jobs that aren’t ski patrol etc posted on their website already actually
Yeah man it looks like a lot of fun! Silverstar had a similar setup this year but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as big as the Sun Peaks one.
