Q1: How do I wash my GORE-TEX® jacket?
All The North Face garments have cleaning instructions on a tag inside the garment. In most jackets, you will find the tag stitched in the seam at the waist.Washing your GORE-TEX® jacket will not hurt it. In fact, washing your jacket regularly will help maintain the DWR coating on the outside of the fabric, which causes water to bead up and shed off, rather than being absorbed.
Be sure to zip all zippers, and close all Velcro® fasteners before you wash your jacket. Please use a mild powder detergent. Liquid detergents can leave a residue on your jacket that will interfere with the DWR performance. You can wash your jacket in a regular washing machine, in cold water, on a gentle cycle. Put it through the rinse cycle twice, to be sure the detergent residue washes out. You can dry your jacket in a low temperature dryer, and if necessary, use a cool iron. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners, dry clean, or store when wet.

He might have linings or materials in his jacket that don’t like to be tumble dried.
Generally though, Gore-Tex likes a quick cycle (on a low setting) in the tumble dryer. As Kim mentioned, it reactives the DWR (water repellency) and breathability of the fabric.
Usually, I drip-dry the outerwear for a little while (just to remove the bulk of the water), then throw it in the tumble dryer on low until the outerwear is dry.
Any good ways to remove oil spots on your jacket from the lifts?
Are Hotham’s lifts still spraying that shit everywhere Mud? If so, send an email of complaint. I spoke to Finney about it while I was in Whistler. He said they should never have that much oil that they spray like that. That is the lift maintenance guys being lazy fucks and putting heaps on so they have to do it less

It was just one spot on the wife’s jacket, Brad. She already attacked it with some spot cleaner. Hopefully that didn’t damage the DWR.
Ah k. My brand new jacket got trashed by it last year. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. Actually didn’t realisw where it was coming from. I wish I did what I said above. If it happens again I will for sure

Yep, the sleeves are all black blotchy around the cuff and around the ass too. Ass gets dirty anyway I know, but it was from sitting on lift wheel oil on chairs

Pretty sure that the “black blotches” around the arse area might not be oil from the lifts?????
I always use Nikwax Tech Wash for washing outerwear. It’s specifically formulated for cleaning waterproof/breathable outerwear, while reviving waterproofing and breathability. I probably wash my outerwear once a season, or whenever I feel like the water repellency needs reviving.
From there, you should use TX.Direct Wash-In or Spray-On. Personally, I prefer the spay as I find it easy to apply and it saves doing another cycle in the machine. TX.Directs adds water repellency to the fabric for maximum performance.
Can this Nikwax stuff be purchased from Coles or Safeway? Or from a particular specialist shop?
Most local snowboard shops should sell it, we get it from the one down the road from us. (generally if they sell snow clothing they will sell something to protect the clothing with)
