Does whistler send out reps to recruit in Australia at all or do you have to just rock up to the job fair in Canada/pay their Australian affiliate a grand to set a job up before you go?
Its too late to pay their affiliates now i think…
Rock up at at job fair and see how you go. Worst that happens just go to another of the mountains and start applying or get a non Whistler job on the mountain
Ok, I’m going to Japan this year but I’d love to work a season at whistler some year. If possible I’d like to organise a job that before I go but I don’t really want to pay a grand for it :/
I think the difference is that you can go to the job fairs and apply there and you’ll use a grand on accommodation and not working for the month leading up to your Whistler job.
Guess it’s a choice of pros vs cons

Never thought of it quite like that. Pro being your in Canada and not in Aus???
Definitely!
Hey all, thought i’d try and get some opinions on when to get to Vancouver for the 2013 season (and maybe beyond)
I’m thinking of getting to Vancouver September the 9th, giving me a week in van to get gear etc.
Since i’m not planning on going with one of the pre-season companies, am I leaving enough time to get my accommodation saughted for the season in Whistler? (i’m planning on getting there a week and a bit before the job fair)?
Hey Ads,
Job fair is on the 27th / 28th September in Whistler. So getting to Vancouver on the 9th means you have almost 3 weeks before the fair.
While Vancouver is a nice city from what I’ve heard, I doubt you’ll need more than a few days to get everything ready and get to Whistler before the fair. So personally I’d be trying to arrive in Vancouver closer to the 18th (giving you 6-7 days to sort everything out, go shopping and get to Whistler and then 2-3 days to chill before the job fair.)
I’d organise to have 2-3 days in Whistler in the hostel max before you go to the job fair. Take the time to get used to everything, maybe meet up with anyone else you know who is going and maybe meet some other people in the same situation as you. Book the hostel ASAP as there are probably going to be tons of people in the same situation as your self.
Remember that you need to apply for jobs on the website here: https://secure.whistlerblackcomb.com/ats/currentjobs.aspx to organise an interview at the job fair. You can’t just rock up and hope to get something.
Accommodation can be organised after you know if you have a job. If you don’t get a job and start renting a place, you could really screw yourself over. If you’re looking to go into staff accommodation, you can’t even do this unless you have a job.

Like everyone else in this situation, you’re probably freaking out. Remember that there are so many other people doing the same thing as you and that as long as you’re a like-able person and have everything ready to go when you get to Canada, you shouldn’t have any issues at all.
Go back to the first post in this thread and you can check to see if you have everything.
Also, for anyone looking for flights, check out kayak.com, they seem to have the cheapest flights on the net
If you want to leave on the 18th September, a non-stop / cheap flight from Sydney to Vancouver with Air Canada is $894 US

And then maybe see your friend who is a travel agent so they can get free / cool stuff from your booking
(There are some here who would probably be happy to help if you ask )
Looks like yay’s all around today.
My Canadian Visa got approved (have to enter Canada by July next year.) and Wilmshurt just posted on Facebook that he is off to Canada (so I guess him and his misses both got jobs)
Fark yeah :D I’m off to Canada probably leaving after the October long weekend for Sarah to start October 16 & for me to start as a lifty on November 3rd.
People we need snow dances to be done lots and lots of snow dances..
A big congrats to wilms and awesome you’ve got your visa sorted TJ :shakka:
Thanks mate. Just need a job and then it’s 100% on.
Then we go down the road of selling all my crap, quitting my job here and booking flights etc
Also got confirmation of my lifty job - flights are already booked for 27 October but I don’t start work until the 1st of December.. thinking of pushing my flights back to 13 November, but not sure I would end up saving much as I won’t be working either way! May as well get over there and get organised in a leisurely way I guess.. SO STOKED TO HAVE SECURED WORK!
Hey Stacey, if you want your photo on the left there, you need to “Edit Avatar” not “Edit Photo”. I just clicked to see where you were planning to go in older posts and saw your picture in that area . Lifty in Whistler will be awesome!

The difference might be those 2 extra weeks in a hostel vs living at home.
If you’re not paying rent over here, hostels in Vancouver are a minimum $21-25 a night.
So that’s a good $147 a week minimum before food and entertainment etc.
Over 2 weeks, that’s $300 that you could have saved and spent extra time with family and friends.
Now if you’re paying more than $150 a week in rent here and no job, then sure… pack up and leave earlier. Exploring another city will be much more fun than sitting at home waiting. But if you’re going to be on the lower end of the saving spectrum (entering Canada with the bare minimum ($3000 I think?)) then probably better to chill here and go closer to your job start
Yeah I think I will be in staff accom from 1 November from what I have heard, so yeah still having to fork out $300ish for that fortnight before entertainment etc, but I would be paying rent and other expenses if I stayed, so exactly right - may as well be somewhere foreign!! I should have $8k to $10k (am hoping to go to Europe after) so I should be fine if I don’t get too carried away! I have been to Whis before so I am sure I will be fine - and I have more than 14 weeks to really knuckle down and save every penny!! Hope the next 14.5 weeks flies by!
Cheers for the photo tip also!
