That was stupid up there.
I arrived at Cruiser around the same time that photo was taken. Called an early lunch (even though we had a late breakfast), then sat on some rocks for half an hour.
When I saw multiple kids classes getting on Merritt’s chair to download I figured the instructors had been told not to take kids there.

Funniest thing about that photo; I was watching how many people where trying to connect and post with their phones - In the hour we were there I couldn’t load a single Facebook update or BW page.
I just imagine the person who took that had time to wait to post the image.

Really the cams should show lift line status.

Note: there was an issue with the lift and the staff weren’t very organized with the gates. By the time we got in line it took 5mins to load and it had all been sorted.

PP decided we should do Highnoon even though she was on a snowboard. Highnoon was a scene to behold - PP looked far more capable than most with only 3days boarding experience. We passed a few people carrying kids through the mogul field.

She felt her first ever REAL leg burn - the ordeal ended in tears, cramped feet and buying her some footbeds.
~she can ski Highnoon in under 5min, not so on a board~

The wind picked up today and clouds rolled in. There was sago blowing about in the morning - Wind chill made it feel sub zero even though my phone said it was +8.

I had to shoot Friday Flat - freerider portraits and half expected to get wet, which I didn’t, even the sun made a brief appearance.
PP acted as my assistant organizing the groups and instructors. She did such an awesome job I wish she could be here every week.

I ran into a couple of different people on Tuesday who had season passes to Thredbo but who were paying to ride Perisher as it was so bad at thredders, hopefully it gets better there soon, mates of mine with thredbo passes are yet to even bother going this season.

I have no doubt the snow will come. Personally I would much rather a late season than an early season. Generally, we seem to get one or the other. I guess that’s good news for the Shred.

June can always be a roll of the dice!!!!!

Mid July/August/Early Sept are always the go in OZ!!!!!

Plus Thredbo always looks worse on the cams due to most of them only showin the lower elevations!!!!!

I wasn’t hearing anything better about the cover at Perisher than Thredbo - from people riding in both resorts - with interschools split between both I know plenty riding both.

Mizu knows!!
Whenever I have the option I don’t go to the snow before the second half of July - the past 15seasons have shown me June always has limited runs open.

We are know ending the first week of July. Crackenback Supertrail opens today from Eagles Nest, Highnoon is open (and will now have good cover). The Traverse is open, linking both sides of the mountain. Cruiser area will have all areas accessible.
All that’s left is Central Spur and Basin Area and it will be 100%.
Central Spur normally opens shortly after July school hols.

The rail comp wasn’t held in the new bowl (Giddyup) it was under the EasyDoesIt chair near the bottom of FF and they groomed it flat afterwards.

I haven’t gone through Giddyup yet. It’s accessed via a covered magic carpet from the top of EDI chair, at the top of FF and exists onto the bottom of Highnoon.
The other new area (where the photo we tried to figure out it’s location) is behind Friday’s Bistro (the old snow play area), that backs onto the closest day parking area on the side of the road, just before the roundabout.

Thanks for lead…

When we were up in thredbo the other weekend I hiked up Friday Flat (the queue for EDI was SO long) and the magic carpet was a nice way to “rest” plus get a few extra metres of run!

GiddyUp was great, it’s pretty straight and flat so good for newbies practising riding flat and straight! And wide enough that you can avoid people when they fall over.  Great idea!

Reckon the magic carpet needs some LEDs and disco music though grin

Wish we could go back soon.. this latest storm seems to have opened up the rest of the resort.  Anyone have pics?

I’ve shot a fair bit of video for interschools and Redlands Cup in the last 2 days but it’s not on my computer so I can’t access it to even take any stills from it. The few photo’s I took with my phone:- I don’t have the energy to get my phone from across the room! Today was my 1st big day riding, coupled with videoing the shredlands event at the Merritts rails, then working tonight (I just finished and stuffed a pizza in my belly).

In between events I’ve been doing some freeriding around the resort - THE CONDITIONS UP HIGH ARE EXCELLENT.

Even today on my way to Merritts from Kosci chair (crossing one from one side of the resort to the other) there were some deep powder stashes. By deep I mean; at one stage I was digging myself out of a waist deep hole filled with powder. There where areas that still had ankle deep fresh turns to be made. The snow was dry enough that I didn’t put a cover on my video camera and could blow the snow that clung to it off.

This afternoon we had a beautiful snow fall happen under blue skies - flakes the size of 5c and 10c pieces but it only lasted 30min.
Another snow shower this evening left a 1cm layer of snow across the village. I was delivering pizza at the time and didn’t need windscreen wipers on.

I have a ski date for 1st lifts in the morning and will try to snap some photos or even do a SNOcam vid.

The bottom of the mountain still needs deeper cover, and it gets a bit soft and chunked up in the arvo.

A friend came to Thredbo for the second time ever (first time was 2 weeks ago). Back then he was saying that Perisher is a better resort - after today he was frothing about how much more he likes Thredbo. Even with the long lift lines this week.
