Haha yeah, I think that will definitely be a need for me!

Photographers ey… a fantastic thing about Big White was QuickPics!
A company that set up short slalom courses, small kickers and at general spots around the mountain during the day and take photos of anyone and everyone going past. If you think you have some photos you go into the shop at the end of the day, scroll through and find yourself and you mates and they put the photos into a file. At the end of your trip or the season you pay ~$80 (when i was there) for a dvd of all your photos. They also take photos of all the events so you can get those chucked on there as well… You can also book photographers to follow you and your group around for the day of so.
I cant think of many better jobs than one with them!

That would be a sick job!

That sounds awesome! Thinking it might be a bit of an issue that neither of us can ski/snowboard at all yet though…Might get in contact with them and just see what they say. Thanks heaps! Would love to be able to do our photography over there!

I’ve only done it a couple times. If you stick at it it shouldn’t take you too long to get the basics.

If you do a season and don’t give up after the first week, you’ll be ripping in no time! Seriously less than a month and you’ll keep up with the best of them.

If you’re into photography, you can always try to get a job with Coast Mountain Photography in Whistler. It’s actually run by Whistler Blackcomb so will still get all the perks of working for the mountain. They seem to have a lot of fun as well.

Thanks rider26, we emailed them the other night and got a bounce back saying they’re not hiring at the moment but will be around October. Thinking we’re going to head to Sun Peaks now and possibly Whistler for the summer/winter afterwards! Don’t plan on coming home for quite some time smile

Yay Sun Peaks. It just looks like the best of all the different options for me. Not too big, not too small. Every staff on the mountain but not too much staff accom that I’m forced to be there or be an outcast. Decent runs, but not too many that you get lost / never see anyone.

It also seems like they do their jobs Late July / Early August which suits me and us Aussies can get jobs over phone interviews which means I wouldn’t even have to be there early for job fairs.

If you want to read my full conversation with “Steve” who worked at Sun Peaks the last 2 years, click here: http://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/comments/1het9l/working_in_canada/cau4q1f

This is awesome for you! You will be able to work up until the day you fly out and potentially start work 3 days later…

If you can TJ I would hold off doing any sort of travel until the end of the season…. as even if you line up summer work there will be a lull of a few week’s/month that you will barely be working.

Just also throwing it out there that Banff is a bigger summer draw card than Whistler in Summer (cause actually summer in Banff is their peak time not winter) so you might want to think of Banff as a summer work place than winter,.

Yep, it works awesomely.

While I’m not planning to go all out travel mode, I would like to explore Vancouver and have time to get ready prior to the season. So it’s likely I’ll want to be in Canada about a week before I start working so I can have 4 days here and then maybe 3 days prior to work at Sun Peaks.

Even if I end up using those 3 days mainly looking for places and/or meeting people / scoping everything out smile

Banff in Summer would be amazing, I have seen the photos!

And after summer in Banff, you truly want to work in Whistler (2014/15) then you can head over to the job fair on your days off from Banff… with nothing to lose if you don’t get a job…

Sounds like a good starting plan.

Though I’m not committing to anything yet. I haven’t even left Sydney or quit my job hahaha.

But your planning…

I am a planner so can’t help but plan along with you!

I don’t want to over plan. I did this in 2009 when I did my season and I did things wrong because I planned too much, too early.

Lets plan the things I need to plan at the moment and we can leave Summer / 2014/15 for later. I’m still going to be on BW and emails if I go over there so we should be good smile
