I was actually working with one of the head consultants for that job a few months ago, they are really dumping some serious money into it, the company that it belongs to do water parks all over the world and he said as far as initial outlay this is one of the biggest they are/ have done in a long time, rather than build small and build up according to success.

The thing is, that Wet ‘n’ Wild is already a brand name known in Australia. Sydney is Australia’s largest City and the only theme park we have is Jambaroo which is 1.5 hours drive minimum out of Sydney. Each car alone can cost >$60 just getting there.

Penrith on the other hand is about 40 mins from Sydney (and less for people in surrounding suburbs) and therefore it can be 1/2 or less to go there.

Also, if they start small and build, they won’t get the fan base. They are launching for summer and want to have as much open as possible so they can ensure there are minimal lines (and increasing the masses happiness!)

Whilst good in theory you have to convince all the right people that the investment is going to pay off, and for an initial investment this ones a whopper!
