Oh and what about baggage etc???
Food/alcohol on the flight
(plus the free flight to Melbourne in ff pts!)
Its not saving $200 if you have to pay $500 for domestic flights!
If that’s the case, different story. For the same price, Qantas everytime!
Food is nothing, $20 tops on the flight. I don’t normally drink on the flight since I will already be doing so much of it overseas and I bring my own entertainment.
I think anyone who is booking a trip for Japan now is silly. Flights only get cheaper until about 3 months out. Look again in September / October and get back to me. If you got FF then pay the extra $10 or so for Jetstar and put them on. Baggage is like $30. So $60 in extras total on Jetstar.
all this talk about flying to japan is getting me excited
Come to Canada instead and visit me?
179 sleeps to go!
Worth remembering not everyone chooses to go to Hokkaido though.
Yep but didn’t you see the figures posted above? The other day it was more expensive to fly Jetstar than Qantas! Some people don’t even bother to check qantas flights.
The other thing to think about is that I believe it is more expensive to get from Osaka to Hakuba.
Hey Lano,
Where did you see that fare?
Today I can only see flights for $300+ one way, so $684 rtn.
Then you have another $48!!! for 15kg of baggage… and TJ to get frequent flyer points (which i know so people don’t care about) or even a meal you have to pay $76 ea way!
So today $743 with only 15kg baggage… or $917 with baggage (which kg’s are less than qantas) and meal/ff pts!
179 sleeps to go!
176 days, 1 hour, 23 mins, 32 seconds
Give or take a few hours haha.

As I was telling you guys the other day, it’s going to blow your mind it’s just on another level from anything we’ve got here and the culture is captivating.

Yes I did I was just throwing it into the discussion as many of us never have to worry about domestic flights. It would have to be a bloody cheap flight for me to pick Osaka over Narita though for getting to the Nagano region.
Now keep in mind I’m heading back to Japan in October and flying Qantas but I definitely don’t write Jetstar (or other budget carriers) off when I’m planning a trip.
At the times I have to travel (Summer school holidays) there’s often a substantial $1000+ difference to upgrade to Qantas. My last trip with Scoot was actually quite pleasant (free upgrades etc) but I don’t think I’d do the 32hr multiple stopover thing again I value my time more than that so will just spend the extra next time. For future trips I’d also consider someone like Cathay and spend a few days in Hong Kong.
I actually find the budget carriers “pick your own” baggage more flexible and cheaper if I’m carting around oversized items or over 23kg.
Food you can pack your own and I can survive half a day without an alcoholic drink!
Yeah this is true DRC.
Scoot was a great option for you. The school holiday thing sucks for you.
I value my time more than that so will just spend the extra next time.
Also on this - that is another thing to consider… saving the $200 to fly jetstar is not worth it when having to stop in Cairns…

Oh and don’t get me wrong - I can survive too!
I fly United to the states. I can get a flight cheaper to SFO than Tokyo.
I just don’t think Jetstar is worth it to Japan unless it was around $500 per person. Which I think you can get if you buy 2 for 1.

Yeah definitely if that was the price difference I’d do it every time. I’m really relaxed about my upcoming trip, the direct flight is going to be a breeze compared to last times marathon effort.

I sure hope that’s the case when I start looking into a USA/Canada trip
