Hey guys,
Have any of you been to Cuba?
Michelle and I are getting married in the Bahamas in February. For the most part, I have done a great job at not being involved in the organising of this wonderful event, but it seems like my luck has run short and I will be organising the honeymoon. Seriously, can’t a guy just get married and have a holiday organised for him? hahaha.
Anyway, we’re thinking somewhere close to the Bahamas. Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico etc. From what I’ve been told, Cuba should be at the top of our list. We’re into experiencing different cultures and doing more adventurous stuff, rather than just staying on a quiet beach or at a resort.
Just thought it would be a good idea to put this out there. First hand experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yo J.
Ive sailed past Cuba dozens of times, but never stopped through.. I have quite a few friends that have been to Cuba and have all raved about how wonderful it is! The beaches, people, culture, food, cuban cigars and RUM!! All amazing things. If your contemplating going i would highly advise going from what other people of said! Haha!
Mexico is wonderful as ive spent a few weeks around the Nth Pacific side of the coast surfing… Again amazing place, can get a little dodgy of a night time in the back streets though
Costa Rica ive also heard amazing things about. Sun sand surf and general good times!
Tick Cuba off the list though Jeremy, ill be ever so jealous!! Good luck!!

THIS
Yes. Haven’t we already spoken about this?
I’m pretty sure I sent you a pm or wrote a post about Cuba here before.

I’ve been to cuba, and pretty much hated it. Now im all for different cultures and the like and before i got to cuba i had been in mexico and crossed the country for 2 weeks and loved it. We started in mexico city and did a GAP tour across the country and it was awesome, the highlight for me was the underground pools in caves (cenotes) that due to there being no health and safety you can climb down and swim in them and its amazing!!! google them!!
After mexico we flew to cuba. I had high hopes as ive only heard good things but as soon as our taxi dropped us off at our accoms we went for a walk and ‘met’ the cuban people. Now we only stayed in the capital havana so i cant vouch for the rest of the country but the people there were either A rude or B out to scam you for cash by dragging you to bars and making them buy you drinks. They also more concerned with how they look rather than caring for their city and will just drop their trash where ever.
Also any country that has a Tourist currency and a local currency where things are the same price BUT you are charged the tourist dollar which converts to approx $1 TOURIST cuban = $1 US but their local currency is approx $1 LOCAL cuban = 10 US cents, is dodgy to me.
Appart from that what i saw was beautiful, the old buildings and old cars are super rad, the people, not so much. If you do decide to go, dont spend all your time in the capital, stay a day or 2 then get out and explore the country.
That being said i cant recomend mexico enough!!
some cuba pics
me looking solem on the havana break water
looking down the street at the old cars from our accoms
helados = ice cream, cubans eating ice cream means dropping your rubbish where you eat.
it is a cool looking place really
I heard Cuba is only good in April.
