Canada Mega Thread - Information and Advice

I’ve bookmarked the mountains employment sections. The majority of the smaller mountains don’t mention hiring fairs and refer only to applying for positions online. Where there are dates for hiring fairs or openings I listed it under the name of the resort.

Whistler:
Whistler, September 27th & 28th, 2013

Silver Star
Can’t find any information about any job fairs, however they accept online applications year round.

Fernie
Resumes with covering letters will be accepted by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Site is old school but has lots of great info and sounds like staff there recieve a number of perks.

Well my visa is almost done. Sent an email to Silver Star asking if they only do Australian applicants through TWHC (which I would prefer not to pay an agency). Hopefully they like my initiative or something and ask for my resume hahaha.

Whatever happens, Canada is becoming a major possibility and worst that happens, I go and can’t get a job and it turns into a decent holiday before I come back and decide what I plan to do with my life.

Let me know what the say so i can do the same thing hehe wink.

Thats right, although I would say for me getting a job is the whole point so i can stay for a whole season, i will sell my organs if need be haha LOL

when i come home im not sure what i’ll do, ive just quit uni for a while and dont have any solid plans go me cool smirk

Haha will do. I doubt it will happen since I said I’d like to be a Lift Attendant (not Lifty as it sounds bogan)

When I come back, it would likely entail living with parents / friends and looking for another job… or going to Queenstown and doing a season there.

Im still banking on whistler.. Hopefully haha.

Hey ive read the information on visa applications but I think ive read it a few times in different sections and ive got myself confused. If anyone has done it recently can you outline what needs to be done in real simple terms?

Eg. Get your passport, photocopy it, complete a form, and send them in together or somthing haha

Below gives you the step by step orientation with regards to the whole process.

Note, after 10.Wait for a response is only the end of the first stage, the next stage is canadas immigration side of things which takes time (longer depending on how long the strike goes for fml)

Time to put you on the payroll?

in terms of the visa,

its a two step process as TJ outlined in the first part, submitting via a paper copy you application, and when it has been received by the consulate (Canadian of course) they will send you an email to the account you registered on the sent documents with the instructions to fill out all the immigrations forms. http://www.cic.gc.ca/ is the website. from there you go;

1. Start new application (press start on the come to Canada part)

You will need about 10-15 minutes to complete the questionnaire. You may be asked questions about your:

nationality, age, language ability, family members, education, work experience, income and/or net worth details on any job offer

2. when its done you’ll get a personal checklist (put that in a word document)

3. set up a GCKey and log in you’ll be instructed to fill out some of their immigration forms

Application for Work Permit Made Outside of Canada (IMM1295), IEC Conditional Acceptance Letter, CV, Passport, Digital photo, police cert, and Family Information Form (IMM5707).

4 make sure everything is filled out properly and no sections left blank unless you cant write N/A, in that case leave it blank

and voila !

Good luck!

These posts would have been very hand a few weeks ago. I think my ocd need to quadriple check everything and over read into things made it way more complicated then it actually was. I’m sure they’ll prove useful for others and maybe next years group.

You’re not the only one Joy… I took like 30 looks at the instructions before sending mine off…
