Perisher 2013

I had a great two days.  Andy did a great job getting my confidence back and I was really starting to enjoy myself.

Big props to the rep from Now bindings.  One of my toe straps kept slipping due to a weak spring in one of the clips. So I went over to the board testing tents He gave me a new one on the spot and I was back riding in less than 5 mins.

Bring on next weekend smile

Our Andy??

Good one!

Bring on two weeks time grin

Oz, where do I buy this wonder herb?? Only place I’ve seen is online or in the city.. would there be any where on the beaches that sells it?

Ask around…

But most people haven’t heard of it (even the chemist who actually have it! I visited the one in the city 3 times before I found it.)

BUT - TJ ordered his online and got it in two days. So go buy it now!

Got home last night after a great couple of days at Perisher to kick off my season (though if I’m being honest I still find it very anti-climatic post Japan, I think riding with mates will make it better next time)

Considering the lack of snow I have to say they’ve done really well with the man made.

Spent the first day lapping front valley and mid station. Lift lines were pretty bad to begin with but quietened off around lunch time. Special mention to the ski patrol on mid station who helped to cause some shocking collisions. Standing in the middle of the bottom of the steep bit telling people to slow down only aided in freaking out the bad riders (there were plenty) who would then slam on the brakes catch an edge then have a massive pile up behind them.  teacherboy

Headed back to Jindy camp ground right next to the lake. Caught up with Dylan and Jonny that night which resulted in way too many “last beers” for my liking. Made for a pretty woeful nights sleep but not as bad some going by the update I got in the morning from the younguns.  billy

Spent day 2 at blue cow as they had opened Zalis (which is now rated as a black diamond??) I’ve always liked Zalis so despite it being pretty icey then chopped up it was good fun and relatively quite lift line wise.

Despite suspecting there would be fresh snow for Monday I decided to head back home that afternoon. I was feeling a bit flat and felt I’d had enough of those 2 runs and have a week booked in a couple of weeks.

Got home and was universally greeted by people telling me how bad I looked and sounded and I have woken up this morning not feeling a whole lot better so it was probably a good call.

Here’s a repost of some photos I posted on instagram.

What the??

Is this a permanent change or just a rating for the current conditions?

I’d have to think it was because of the conditions? The signs were up at the lift entry. Could it be because it was a bit icey (but this is pretty normal for zalis) or because there were a few steepish rollers/dropoffs? Didn’t think to take a photo of Zali’s from the bottom

Zali’s is one of my least favourite runs… it’s pretty steep, pretty short and is always icy. I’ll always take accelerator when possible or go down to Lower rollercoaster from there smile

On BC you had a choice of Zali’s or Early Starter, I made my choice! smile

Upper rollercoaster was looking close to being ready (they were grooming) from a distance.

Freakin’ LOVE Zali’s!!

Too many people on Excelerator most of the time.

Last season I was one of the first people to go down Excelerator! Before we dropped the rope. now THAT was fun!

I really think Zali’s is a skier run. Every half decent or better skier I know loves it.

I think it’s really wide, attracts beginners, is steep (with no real difficulty there) and has no hits for me to play with.

I get that Excellerator can get busy and the lift at the bottom can be a massive bottle neck / queue but it’s still way more fun than Zali’s to me.

I get my fix of excellerator on First Tracks Sundays. After that ridge chair is a bit of a nightmare.

Guthega FTW!
