Looking at the interview processes for snow school, is it similar for other operational positions?
If you are shortlisted for a Snow School interview, there are 3 interview types offered (see list below), please outline in your cover letter which you would prefer.
1-Skype interview (You must include your Skype ID in your cover letter).
2-Telephone interview (You must include the best phone number to call you, in your cover letter).
3-In-person, in Whistler (outline on your cover letter that you are in town).
I’ve gone through that process myself (started instructing at Whistler Blackcomb in 2005).
However, I think the process is a bit different for other jobs, i.e. no phone interview. They like to lock in instructors pretty early for the season, as I guess it’s one of the jobs where you actually need experience and/or certifications.
Other than that, I think it’s all fairly standard/similar.
So i was unsuccessful in the job I was going for (5 interviews later) so I moving home as uni finishes in 2 weeks and will save a bit of money.
Im hoping to have my visa sent back soon.
and wait for applications to open!
Hey guys,
Missed all of this! Haven’t checked Boardworld in a while and was surprised to find so many posts since I was last on the thread! Yeah so highly recommend NOT going with a program - screwed us over, luckily we got our money back and are still pumped for Whistler and doing it ourselves which was our original plan. Think it worked out best in the end! We arrive in Vancouver on 9 October, will stay til the 14th and get bank acc etc sorted then head to Whistler.
We won’t make it for the job fair but we’re going to get to Whistler, give ourselves a week or so of constantly handing out resumes and if we don’t get anything move on to somewhere smaller and hopefully get to Whistler for summer! Basically winging it to see what happens. Visa have been approved and we leave Perth in 10 weeks!!! Would love to catch up with some of you guys when we arrive!
Ive been trying to tell my mate todo almost exactly what your doing ayesha!
he ended up paying a program that does bugger all for you and they even convinced/scared him into going to a smaller mountain that i hadnt even heard of before, they told him all jobs at whistler were taken or needed more experience/qualification. he really wanted to goto whistler because he’s really into mountain biking and snowboardings only a new thing for him
Me through the whole time of him doing this:
hey ayeshaje, just curious when did you apply for your visa? how long it take you to get your letter of introduction?
4-12 weeks is about how long it’s been taking recently..
It took 4 weeks for mine to come through so..
Hahaha Dylan, love the facepalm. Glad we got out before we forked out the rest of the cash and got all our money back! They were going to try to stick us in some other random area too I reckon but had no trust left after that happened so got out straight away and feeling a lot better about it now!
Looking back at my application for my visa it looks like it only took a week! That’s from the date of the online application part to the receipt of my intro letter on my online account….I put it in at the end of April.
awesome gives me a little more hope as i submitted the full application in May so haven’t heard anything either way so hopefully its still in processing
I’m sure it will be all good…those were the dates on mine but I could have sworn it took longer than that.
Looks like there could be a few of us BWers over there this year.
I’m going to apply for everything. All the mountains and probably some of the bigger hotels as well. If I have to pay for a season pass, I’d make up for it in living arrangements and hopefully something like a bar job. Since tips are big in NA / Canada, I feel like it could be an easy way to get plenty of mountain time and decent money. You’re also always at the parties but don’t have to feel like you’re always getting drunk. (Lets face it, I’m not 21 anymore.)
Though I wouldn’t be opposed to lifty, rentals or maybe even a chalet worker job (Or something I’ve totally missed)

Thats awesome, that means ill have some friends at season start
I am keen on whistler because of its huge social atmosphere (lets be honest im not even 21 yet )
I heard lifty isnt a bad gig- with rental do you need years of experience?
(Lets face it, I’m not 21 anymore.)
Are you serious??? Mate you should be at your prime right about now!
I could certainly drink more boys under the table at 25 than 21!!
This trip you are embarking on should be good training for your liver!!
Haha it’s not that I can’t, I just won’t “that” often!
I prefer to have 3-4 beers and have fun than get smashed and waste hundreds of dollars these days…
Not to say I won’t have a big night on occasion.

Not sure if this would be affecting it but might be a longer wait…
Alert – Strike Action
The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas.
Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages.
Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.
Contingency plans are already in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service. Priority will be placed on urgent humanitarian applications.
CIC continues to closely monitor the situation.
That’s from the My Cic website.
Only this would happen while trying to get my application done
