Hotham 2013

Thanks, Tobi.  I’d much rather go the Harrietville way as it saves me something like and hour and a half if it’s all running well.

I feel a bit sorry for the business owners at Bright and H’ville if the Hotham people are telling punters to come up the other way.

But on the other hand, businesses on this side get a boost with more traffic coming up this side smile

Down side is I get stuck behind them driving up downer

True that Azz! Your way is much cruisier too!

Got my Hero Pass today - yay.  Now all I need is some snow.  Current outlook is not good.

Quick question for those of you who live in Melbourne, do you tend to day trip up there or spend a few nights?

We’ve usually done Buller because its do-able as a day trip but I’m not massively keen on Buller and have heard a lot of good things about hotham. Just trying to figure out logistics!

Thanks!

Weekend.

Too much driving for a day trip.

Done a hell of a lot of day trips.

Unless i was going to go up for over 3 days i would just day trip it. Leave around 3am, get home around 10pm then go out!

^ This, it’s day trip-able if you’re keen. If you share the driving it’s not too bad. I generally stay at least one night though. There are quite a few reasonably priced places to stay in Harrietville etc.

It’s a big drive for a day trip.  The good thing is a large part of it is on the Hume, assuming you’re going that way.

or setup yourself up a back of the car based hotel. K2 is quite good at it. He can word you up on the ins and outs

I have done plenty of day trips to Falls/Hotham. Some I do like dean said and leave at 2.30-3am and come back that night. OR some I drive up friday night. sleep in car, at Mt Beauty for example, then drive up the hill first thing then come home that night.

But most the time last season I either left Thursdy or friday night and came home sunday nights

Thanks guys, the thought of 10+ hours driving in one day is a bit daunting! The idea of getting up at 2-3am is even worse!!  Think an overnight trip will be the way to go for me.

I must say I am quite impressed, if I got home at 10pm after a day like that there is no way anyone would be dragging me out of the house again! That’s what i call dedication!

Haha the driving is the easy part really, usually did it with a mate, sometimes 2. so you only drive one way at the most so its only 5 hrs driving. Getting up is easy when you are excited for snow!

The best thing about the drive to Perisher over Falls/Hotham is its almost a freaking highway the entire way there. Easiest drive ever. 99% of the trips i have done to perisher were day trips.
