What TJ said, in my parents place we did the same thing, run cat6 to all bedrooms, about 6 ports in the spare room/study

What’s cat6? Probably the dumbest question ever.

Its the type of cable.

Cat6 is the best (i believe?) There is Cat 5, Cat 4 etc. I THINK.

I know there is cat5 but my knowledge of this stuff is just things i have picked up on site from our sparkies

Category 6 cable.

Normally the Blue network cable that’s connected to your computer.

There is previous categories but get 6 as it’s the most up to date.

Cat 5 and cat 6 data cable do the same thing basically except cat 6 cable is able to transmit larger amounts of data at the same speed cat 5 normally transmits at.. Also has to do with the twist in the cable pairs and structure blah blah blah..

Electrician territory? Or DIY?

Electrician territory? Or DIY?

its all easy enough to run through the wall cavities and ceiling space yourself but once you get to the wall sockets there is a special tool you need to terminate the cable to the plug, i have used them before, but couldnt tell you what the price of the tool is

oh and another thing im not sure if anyone has mentioned yet, do not run power and data cables side by side, try keep a good distance between them and minimize cross overs. this is to avoid interference caused by induction

Lol you’ll want about 75mm min distance between power and data as Dylan said.

Terminating tools if you are connecting the cable to a wall patch you will need a Krone tool or the matching one to the wall socket you are using but they are pretty cheap and the Internet and eBay are great for that sort of thing $7-15 mark roughly and if you are making the connecting cables ie patch cable you will need an RJ45 crimper or 8P8C crimper same diff.

The Internet has lots of wiring help too..

My husband can help you build a boat if you want to, and Azz will help you sort out all the trimming for it   LOL

You really should consider building a boat instead, lots of positives to it.

1. Mooring fees are cheaper than council rates
2. Dodgy neighbours? Weigh anchor and find some new ones.
3. You can drink rum all day everyday, because you are a Pirate!!

I have a boat in my shed requiring a rebuild of the deck and trailer. Plus a motor.

Was my project until we bought this house.

Poor thing is just sitting there.

When i was in Victoria Canada we were on a whale tour boat and passed a mooring section where people have little house boats. They looked awesome, full double story houses that wouldnt look out of place on land. Our guide said its a weird community full of hippies and miscreants but like azz said, if they dont like their neighbors they just get towed to a new spot
