Ok folks I have my interview with whistler is on Monday and I think I’ve prepared enough but wanted to know if anyone has had an interview with them before.
I’m going for lift ops and just want to know what points I should be talking about and how I should better sell myself for lift ops..
Any help would be awesome!
Customer service!!!
General questions will be -
Tell me about a time that you have gone above and beyond for customer service service.
Answer them as behavioral questions - ie don’t just say “I always go above and beyond that’s just my nature.” give specific examples of times. Think of examples now.
Why do you want to work at Whistler - try to think of a specific reason that doesn’t suck up too much and is not the standard. My mates will think its cool or everybody whose everybody works at Whistler.
Think of questions to ask them.
Job interviews are a two way street, eg: why you should chose them over another employer. At least be prepared when they ask if there is anything you want to know.
It’s a Jedi mind trick
Make sure you know as much as you can about the company and the position applied for and the interview will be a breeze.
Hey mate,
I’ll eventually move this thread to Mountains and Travel. Happy to leave it here for now, but if you can’t find it, that’s where it will be. I had a phone interview with Whistler Blackcomb back in 2005, when I was employed as a Snowboard Instructor. I have also sent this link to finney and marcab, who both work for Whistler Blackcomb in Lift Ops.
Have a read of my reply here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/13119/P60/#205791
Whistler Blackcomb is a big company, owned by a bigger company. The main thing they look for in employees is:
How well you present yourself. How well you interact with customers.
How outgoing you are to help customers.
How well you represent Whistler Blackcomb.
Remember these points when you are being interviewed. Show them you really want to be there and you’re excited to be a part of the team. Talk clearly, be positive and show you them you will be an asset for to the company. If you do that, you really should have no problems.
It’s super important that you show them how excited you are to work for Whistler Blackcomb. Show them your passion and desire to be part of their team. They are looking for people who will represent the resort with energy, passion, confident and customer service in mind. Show that you want to help people enjoy their stay in Whistler. Speak confidently and clearly. Be excited for your interview and let that shine through. I have been a bit excessive here, but definitely consider all these points and choose the right approach for yourself.
Best of luck, mate. Please let us know how it goes.
Mentioning that you know people who have worked there previously and currently will probably increase your chances as well. To them this reads, he is likely to stay for the whole season and not disappear after 1 month when the friendship group isn’t as big as he wanted. “My friends say it’s an awesome snow field and Whistler Blackcomb is a great employer.” Crap like that will win you brownie points.
Is Sarah planning to go with you? Mention that it’s you AND your wife. Snow fields love having females on the mountain as it looks good to guests to have a more 50/50 ratio (even when it is more like 70/30)
What to wear is also a big issue. You’re applying for a snow job so suit and tie is out of the question but you also don’t want to rock up in a boardworld hoodie. Personally I’d go for the Leather Jacket and straight jeans look. Smart Casual if you can pull it off.
Congrats on getting an interview! pretty much standard as any other interview i would assume with behavioral type questions as people mentioned, be positive, outgoing, show what you can bring to the company with good communication and people skills. Best of luck!
I take it you’re a canadian resident then, I had no idea they would be hiring for lift ops this early? did you find this job on the job board or what?
still waiting for the whistler job fair applications to open up
still waiting for the whistler job fair applications to open up
According to the Whistler website the rest of the job fairs should be opening up:
Applications to apply for our other cities will open mit to late July.
So this is my current understanding of the process, we apply for jobs online, and if successful, they skype interview us and if successful we book into an interview at the fair?
Which other mountains are you guys thinking of applying for to have as many bases covered as possible?
@Joy89
I know i cant fricken wait! has anybody got tips of the information that should be included for cover letters specifically directed at whistler blackcomb’s lift op position?
Do they require a skype interview before hand? I know they do for the snow school but there arent many requirements to be a lift op, or be part of customer relations, just basic personality traits etc.
I really dont plan to apply for other mountains, because regardless i want to be in whistler
I really want to know what the outcome for Wilms was hopefully good
I might apply for Big White and Lake Louise. Both sound amazing!
Whistler because I’d know people and people rave about it but putting all your eggs in 1 basket is never a good idea.
And Sunshine TJ!
And yes 100% agree with all your eggs in one basket…

That counts in the Banff / Lake Louise statement
i didn’t realise you were naming Lake Louise as the area.
FYI that “area” is called Banff (being the base town…) Lake Louise is more commonly named as the resort are not a general area.
Just trying to school you so you don’t look like a newb when you get there!
Haha originally I was naming the resort, since naming Banff is like naming Hakuba.
Then I changed my mind, knowing there are a few in that area.
Now I hope you can stop making me look silly :( hahahahaha
well i do enjoy my eggs (scrambled or poached) please
