Three Burton snowboarders, Connor Harding, Roland Morley Brown and Nick Brown attack Japan’s snow deposits. They get a taste of the landscape, food and culture not to mention the large amount of snow that the country has. Footage comes from Minakami, Nozawa onsen, Niseko and all the way up to Wikani.
They travelled around for 7 weeks to bring you Japan Journals, through blizzards, long days driving, canned coffee and a diet of the finest foods that Seico Mart has to offer.
I’M IN THIS VIDEO!!! and I want royalties jks
I’m in the crowd at the fire festival.
Haha in that case I want some too! Was an amazing experience pity about the influx of bogans!
Enjoyed the video, miss Japan….
Oh you were there too? Cool!
I’ve never seen anything like it. Do u know why they do it?
I don’t, but I kinda feel like it’s a re-enactment of an old war or something like that?
Did you notice as everyone was jumping off the tower towards the end, there was one old dude who was so full of sake, he refused to jump off and was holding onto one of the poles they had to drag him off the tower.

Yeah sure was mate, I was fairly close to the tower on the LHS if you are looking directly at it.
It’s actually more of a luck/fortune ceremony. The interesting part of the ritual is that the men on the tower are all locals but only of certain ages i.e 42 (on top) and 25 (tied to the bottom “defending”) as they are believed to be unlucky ages. It’s a generational thing that every villager eventually gets to take part in. The villagers of all ages then take turns at trying to break through the guards and essentially burn them all down leading to a happy future!
Some of the hits the 25 year olds took with the straw were vicious and I saw more than a few of them temporarily catch fire (not many had eye brows left at the end)
As weird as it may seem to us it’s an amazing thing to watch and we are lucky to be given insight to such a traditional ceremony which is why it annoyed me that some people treated it as a massive piss up, pushing and trampling others and at times interfering with the proceedings. Really disrespectful and embarrassing.
Hahah I know exactly the guy you are talking about. At one stage I thought he was going to fall asleep and roll off the front of the tower! I think they needed all that sake to stay warm as it was puking at times and bitterly cold. I know the free sake they ladled down my throat went down well at the time.
Yeah I know what you mean about some people getting a little too pissed. I’m a bit ashamed of some of the foreigners there, but it was a good night.
Thanks for the info, very interesting stuff.
I loved watching the 5 year olds on their dads back carry a torch and attacking the enemy hahaha. I love Japan.
