board waxing (sped up)

Avatar

Waxed my board with Mr.h0z and filmed it with the new gopro, then sped it up to 16x, it was around 40 mins video..(removing storage wax, applying new wax and scraping that off then smoothing it out,) now the video is under 3 mins smile

Genuine question (not meant to be a criticism)

But do you really need to rewax on top of storage wax?

Shouldn’t it just be a case of scraping the storage wax off and your done?

LOL Mr h0z was on a mad hunt to find something early on, then when he was scraping your board up the camera end it looked like some funky dance moves

That is correct, but really let’s face it, only a full re-wax will be enough to satisfy that ‘must prep my board and make sure everything is 100% prior to lifts opening’ itch.

LOL - true!

Just make sure you have scraped off every bit of wax!

I just worry its overkill! (especially for mr speed demon-ed OP.

Storage wax is cheapo wax.. So we can use it and not care..

and we don’t rewax ontop of it.. We scrape it off, use base cleaner to remove as much as possible.. Then apply the other wax,

(other wax is low flouro wax that is made or Aussie conditions, and since snow boards aren’t exactly cheap.. I like to look after mine.. And yes I scraped all the wax off, then scoured it, then used 3 different brushes on it too… )

also a few people.have said Mr.h0z looks like he is dancing haha (I just laughed at it when watching it back with him rofl!!)

Also, Spaz, Mr.h0z did the rails at the nd of last season.. Then if you look at 0:40, he is touching up a few spots, with our magnetraction edge tool.

Except if you have to scrape down your own 2-3 boards, wife’s skis and 2 sets of kids’ skis.  Then you just scrape off the storage wax and call it a job well done!

Really??

Mr.h0z and I are doing…

my board
3 of his 5..
2 of his mate scott’s (his mate helped him with these)
and other friends in our group for the first trip..
Tom, Charles, Phil,Timmy, stooky (he has skis)

that’s 10 boards and 1 set of skis.. We have done 4 boards so far.. And will do the other 6 over the next week or so.. And the skis too..

Just out of interest, how many of you “crayon” the wax instead of dribbling it on?

Haha you’re nuts!  Seriously, though, I can’t see how it’s worth the time, effort and money for the average rider to scrape off a perfectly good wax to replace it with a slightly faster one.  I must admit I like my own gear to be at its best, but replacing my standard (storage) wax with a fancy hydrocarbon wax is a bridge too far for me.

That is re waxing!

Wax that is needed is absorbed into the board (thats why you scrape it all off) the only reason you need to wax a board is that the base has dried out due to use… or no use. Its why, you keep it on during summer so board doesn’t dry out.

You shouldn’t use cheapo wax because no matter what you do the wax you put on for storage is the wax that you will first ride on. No more wax will absord after you srape of the storage wax… I wont say its a waste of time as it def helps with the SDS BUT you should use quality/appropriate wax (so spring wax if you think you will be riding early season) for storage.

Here’s some food for thought. I almost never wax my board. I mainly ride park and like to have a lil extra friction helping me out on landings. That, and any excess wax from a dodgey scrape is a recipe for disaster on rails. I reckon the only difference between a waxed and non waxed board would be about one speed check.

I do wax my race board however, which is super important, but I only use that about 1% of the time.

Me too actually!

I only get my ski’s waxed if I need a base grind… which is never more than once a season.

It then gets storage wax put on. Thats it!

A good test is to dribble water down your base. If it beads then your good to go - no wax needed!

I did 3 boards (one of mine and 2 mates boards) and by the 2nd board i was hell over it.

And the only reason i did it as the last time it was waxed was the 2nd last day of the shred.

Aint nobody got time to wax like 10 boards!
