10 TILL THE SNOW!!

oz has been, 17 days for me!

also on weekend trips I use 2 tanks of fuel (my tank is 55L) and that’s about $130.. 1 tank gets me from home to the skitube, then back to accommodation in jindy, then the next take does jindy to the skitube then back home.. Its pretty much dead on 500km each way, from home to skitibe..

then with 4 people in the car its like $33 each for the whole trip in fuel smile

I only mentioned fuel cause there were news story’s about how it went up by .14 a L in the last week (to a 4 yr high) and it is going to increase at least .03 a L.

And then you know the whole long weekend price gouge!

Drive slower, use less fuel.

One trip, coming back, had no money and drove at 80kmh. Saved me close on $50 in fuel.

Yeah… You might save a few bucks, $50 is 1/2 a tank for most people. Unless you were driving at 200km/h you didn’t save $50.

You’d be better off not stopping at maccas for food than trying to drive slow and holding up traffic.

Are you calling bullshit TJ ?  wink

Or trying to say my time is more valuable than $50!

How much longer would going 30km less (for those stretches that are 110) and 20 less… add to the drive?

My dad has suggested I go 100 but not 80 before.

Yes to calling bullshit.

From this website here: https://www.originenergy.com.au/evcalculator/?_qf_p1_display=true

The Australian Average for 443km is $53
That is from Campbelltown to Thredbo.

Unless Spaz spent $3 on his trip while travelling 80km/h I think I call a fib.

If he said he saved about $10, maybe… but then again, go the speed limit and don’t stop for food, get something when you get home.

In between here and Melbourne there is freeway, 110 kph.
When Victorian drivers were being bad and dying and such, the powers that be reduced the limit back to 100 rolleyes

We sat down and worked it out, it only made 7mins difference to the trip smile

Lets say that you average about 100 (with the 60’s and that slowing you down and the tunnel etc)

Going 80 (which would average to about 75 once you factor in the same slow zones) over 443km would be

443/100 = 4.43 hours
443/80 = 5.5375 hours
443/75 = 5.9066 hours

Is that extra hour worth the $10 you saved?

At 120kmh the territory drinks an average 15L/100km
At 80km it’s 9L/100km
The round trip from C’town normally costs $200 and leaves me 50km on trip meter (60-70km including reserve)

Strapped for $, I was using ethanol instead of 98oct. I drove from Marulan to C’town on $12.50, after the trip meter hit 20km. The trip meter hit 0km before Picton turn off but made it to C’own on 10L. Engine off on down hill (no steering/brakes) didn’t let consumption go over 10L/100km even up hill - I often was slowed to 40-20kmh.
Actual traveling time was 8hrs. I was so tired and bored had to stop for sleep but chose big hills on the down hill to stop for sleep, allowed gravity to get me going before engine start.

Note: At Eagle Hawk servo they sell 100oct fuel.
Using their fuel I get 25L/100km on the steepest hills (fwy) and the average consumption (at 120kmh) drops to 9.5L/100km.
In MY68VW I get double the distance. 35L gets me to Jindy from Bulli. The VW only runs above 98oct fuel.
