Yeah pack lunch is the way to go!

Yeah I’m going to have to consider doing that this season. I’m not interested in lugging junk food around with me so might have look into some form of sandwich/wrap option.

Main thing I’d need to look into is where I’d store the stuff. I sometimes ride with a pack but not always and last time I rode with a banana in there it ended in tears downer

I’ve also been hesitant in the past as all the areas to sit down and grab a drink usually have signs up saying no BYO food.

Edit: I’ve just had an idea, I’ve always wanted to try some of Kims cooking so on days I’m riding just make doubles and carry it around with you all day and I’ll fix you up for a delicious healthy lunch!  shaka

This is all just excuses!

Banana - not sure why you even considered it. Seriously you KNEW putting it in your bag it woudl end in tears… didn’t you?? teacherboy michelle

Crusty bread rolls are a great idea - this is why i go with the par bakes or bagels (ask anyone who has stayed with me. Dylan, TJ or Blizz - i am not lying when i say i make my lunch and breakfast, that i eat on the drive most days - sometimes i know i want to catch up with friends and buy lunch, but most days)

Years ago a friend shunned my par bakes for normal bread. After day one saw i was onto a good thing re no squashed sandwiches (look they aren’t perfect but def edible)

Seriously this is all coming from the girl who does anything to save time in the morning (i value my sleep!!) and the girl who hates packed lunches!

Take health food bars. muesli bars (but meh full of sugar) or protein bars. Low Gi snack’s so you don’t have sugar peaks and troughs.

BTW you last point. If you stay with me I always offer to pack you a lunch and store it for you - only problem is can’t guarantee that you will find me or get access to it when you want to eat it.

Haha the banana was because I had it on me in the car and figured meh I’ll chuck it in my bag as I won’t fall on my back…..

Yeah I’m not a fan of all those bars as you said packed with sugar (have considered making my own at some stage) but if I’m desperate they will suffice.

When I’m staying at the station for a week I might stock up on some stuff and make a packed lunch (something like chicken/avocado). Whilst camping it may be a little different.

It’s not the end of the world eating the on mountain food it’s just more the principal of it. In Japan I looked forward to every lunch I had the same can’t be said here.

Maybe go for the vegemite and cheese sanga. Doesn’t matter if you get a little body temperature in it, just turns into a toastie.

The muesli bars is a good options with a little chocolate. You could always get dried fruit.

Um why??

Well If your not a princess who freshly bakes each morning (which you can’t do at the station anyway!).

have considered making my own at some stage

Food processor and the following ingredients.

Protein powder.
Dark Chocolate chips or similar
Cocoa (pure not drinking choc which has added sugar)
Peanut butter
Raw nuts (leave whole and maybe put in last after a pre whizz so they are still chunky)
Dessicated coconut (if you want)
Prunes (no pip)

Wizz it up and push into a slice tin or roll into balls (you can roll in the coconut instead of putting in the mix)

Um why??

Mainly an issue with storage/refridgeration if I want something like meat.

Thanks for that. The ones I’ve looked at in the past we’re primarily made up of Protein Powder, Oats and Peanut butter as the binding agent.

Haha yeh, I can imaging a banana turning disastrous.. A mate of ours out a chocolate up & go in his jacket packet.. All was good till he caught a front edge on pretty valley.. And it exploded… Hahaha.. Worst I’ve done was put a tiny hole in my bladder pack with my car keys.. (stacked on my bag and it punctured the bladder…) all that happened was the bottom of the bag was damp..

There is this amazingly common thing in Australia called an esky!

They even have small ones, commonly sold as a 6 pack esky, although unheard of in australia I don’t see why you can’t use it for food!

They are amazing!!!!

(clearly I am in need of a sarcasm font today!)

Haha obviously all it takes is a chocolate or banana to throw off the balance! Fortunately no punctures of my bladder yet.

Funnily enough they sell hard containers shaped like bananas at Kmart wonder how they would hold up to a decent back slapper.

Ouch that’s harsh!

You do know I’m talking about the life changing decision of a packed lunch here, you’re obviously pretty passionate about it!

You do know I was a princess about it??

Are you saying you are more of a princess than me (or Lano??)

I’m completely lost with you today! In the end I was simply posting my thought process out loud and weighing up the pros/cons of packed lunch vs the crud they serve on mountain. The thought of the loss of an innocent banana seems to have fired you up.

I should certainly hope you have me covered in the princess stakes. As far as Lano goes at times last year it would be a little ambituous to think he was even allowed in the royal quarters, he seemed to fill the slave roll.

Fortunately he seems to be freeing himself of the shackles!
