Haha Stamford!

There’s a reason Brad stays at “Hotel Mazda”!

Bit the bullet last night and also ordered a tent and sleeping bag. Also grabbed my old dooner from my parents place, so between that, the station and “Hotel Octavia” I should be set for all occasions now!

Haven’t been in a tent since early years at high school so should be interesting.

can you sleep in your car anywhere? or do you have to get a non powered site in a caravan park/camp ground?

I suppose it’d depend on whether you wanted to use facilities at a camp ground or else hell, what’s stopping you pull over anywhere to sleep. grin And eat if you have a small gas bbq/stove thing.

Hey mate,

Got myself and Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 like this but green.

Loads of reviews here.

Basically not knowing a whole lot about tents I read a lot of reviews and went for something that was easy to put up but also rated well for wind/waterproofness. Should also provide useful if I ever get around to doing some Coastal/Beach camping.

At this stage the holiday park directly across from Nuggets seems the best purely based on the convenient location. I honestly don’t know how many times I’ll be pitching the tent vs car sleeping and the station but it’s a nice contingency to have.

I wouldn’t mind trying some of the places in the national park but the whole no chains for the car rears it’s ugly head and with the tube pass it’s a bit of a waste getting a parks day pass.

Do I recall correctly that you might be doing some camping yourself?

From my research you can get synthetic but rated to low temp bags pretty cheaply.

I import most of my purchases so can’t really help with exact places but the place I purchased my sleeping mat from (a central coast outdoor specialist via ebay) had some affordable bag options as well.

I’ve read many a time to avoid Kathmandu unless they are having one of their “big sales” which brings the stuff back to a more reasonable price.

Probably hit up any local outdoor stores once you have a fair idea of what you are after and you should find something in your price bracket.
