no idea what is going on here..
Had to be there for the conversation in jindy last season. quiet disturbing at points
You guys took it to the gutter!
I had no idea at first!
blame NBG’s mate!!
Well with a few pieces of pine and my new oztrail 4wd mat I will hopefully be sleeping like a king!
Still considering chucking in an order for a tent as well for longer stays.
This is the frame I put a piece of masonite on top of it before the mattress.
I’d be filling that in with more pine ASAP. you will most definitely need it!
EDIT - actually if you put your upper body up towards the front of the car it may not be too bad.

Sorry forgot to mention in the OP and have edited it since but I have a piece of masonite on top of the frame so its flat and solid underneath.
Oh well thats sweet as then,
Sweet work drc! You’ll sleep soundly now
If you like sleeping in bags, -7 should be sweet. You can control with clothing. Sleeping bag liners are great to, add that bit extra warmth.
Just thought i’d say from experience, you need nothing near -7 ratings for sleeping in your car. Your car insulates very well. I just use my normal doona from home and it keeps me warm. I have slept at Falls and Hotham(highest village in Australia) with it being up to -10 outside and woken up to 20cm covering my car and not get cold
Been trying to tell these guys that doonas are awesome!
more comfy too because you can move around in them, not constricted like bags. Last thing you want after a big day riding is to not be able to stretch out in bed. With that mattress drc has should be warm as hell. If worried, put a blanket on the mattress to give warmth from underneath
I’m on the hunt for a Subaru Forester at the moment, and I plan to do this to mine! Might not need a frame though, as the seats fold flat!
I plan to install velcro adhesive strips in certain locations around the windows, so that a solid piece of something can be used as sun blinds, and also white LED strips with switches in advantageous locations. Other things too, such as fixed/temporary storage bags, etc.
And I haven’t even bought the car yet! Haha! Can’t wait.
Dunno where I’ll take it, but I’ll definitely be travelling somewhere!
Agreed, doonas are very comfy compared to sleeping bags. Very much agree with the comment about being able to stretch about after the day!
can you sleep in your car anywhere? or do you have to get a non powered site in a caravan park/camp ground?
I have an old Mazda Astina (seats go down and can check a futon in there) its not 4wd or an “outdoorsy” kind of car, reckon it would be ok to sleep in??

as long as you fit in the care and make it comfy i don’t see why it wouldn’t be okay to sleep in ....
Although i am not sure if you cant sleep anywhere probably the regular campers would be able to answer that question.
