Yeah my next emerites trip will have to include a few days stop over.
Sochi!!!
If I’m accepted…
A couple of boxes and mini kickers…. but I see a RAIL! mwahaha
Can anyone tell me then name of this place?
Mr.h0z and I watched this a while ago.. its pretty interesting to see what went into making ski Dubai and how it works..
“extreme engineering - ski Dubai”
Ha and a rail.
From memory it’s in the Mall of emirates.
You can see it from ages away as the “summit” dome pokes out of the roof. Pretty amazing to see.
Cheers hOz. That was really interesting. Sounds like they make snow a little differently to us. Epic architecture .
Counting down. Last day in Venice then off to Dubai tomorrow!!
Pretty sure we’ll be hitting the mall of the emerits first day.
Which means snowboarding for me!!!
Ok so I went to Dubai Snowpark three days ago and rode for only two hours but I think I got the most from it. This is my first review for anything so if I’ve missed something question away..
So getting there. I found the easiest way to get to snow park once you’re in Dubai is by train as the Mall Of The Emerits has its own station so pretty straight forward and from memory it’s was only 6 AED per person one way. So cheap and easy to get there.
Once you get in and find the place everything is pretty straight forward pay your 200 AED for two hours or 300 for the whole day. There is also a 20 AED deposit for your pass which is refunded apon return. You then move on to clothing and equipment which is all included EXCEPT for gloves. It’s all really basic no frills clothing I can’t be too sure but I think it was Rossignal. Oh yeah by the way NO POCKETS. There is spot for your pass but nothing else. Other than that the clothing was fine. If you are planning on riding all day take your board socks the disposable socks they give you are crap.
When it comes to boots you get a pair of Burton motos. I got a pair of size 9 and I guess that’s a pretty popular size because those boots were so packed out it was ridiculous so much so I think if size 6 were in the same condition they would have fitted well.
Board and bindings. Well I’ve never ridden Rossignal and never ridden a 151 either (I ride 159) but it was a good board for the conditions. And bindIngs were much the same Rossignal. Everything worked but needed to be properly maintained. The bindings needed adjustment on the ankle and toe strap and were just in a ratty state but they worked. The board needed to be waxed its was quite slow even on the icy surface and the top sheet was quite torn up from the lift line and hitting walls. The base was good on the board I used but with not much to wreck it so I wasn’t too surprised about it. Also the bindings worked themselves loose on the board so needed to be tightened but as they were quick change it was freaking annoying to do.
Anyway to the hill itself. It’s about a 4 minute ride to the top on the chairlift but gets annoying going up with a platform midway up for a tube ride if you wanted to get off. Once at the top it’s a pleasant 1-2 min ride to the bottom again. The snow isn’t terrible for man made it just does get a little icy in places. At about halfway down the slope there is a split around the lift platform with an expert only or beginner side personally depending how you go down either side they both could have been beginner or expert as both had very steep sections. There is a small park with a few rail boxes on the slope but these were closed off when I was here and I couldn’t be bothered to ask about why. There is also a T-bar but I didn’t use it as last time I did use one I had to take ski patrol back to base because I twisted my knee and couldn’t ride so I didn’t want a repeat.
All in all it was good fun for a few hours of just riding but there is more you can do at the snow park like tubing and toboggan rides and zorbing if you’re wanting to pay to do it. I think it’s worth it just to be able to say you’ve been there and done it and snowboarder in he desert.
I tried to film riding down but that didn’t work so well on my wife’s camera but there are some pics I’ll put up later too when I can be bothered turning on the laptop.
Awesome report, very detailed. Can’t wait to see the photos
marko grilc & mikkel bang did a private session in there a few days ago, ill post the grilosode when its released
Hey guys sorry I haven’t been on here for ages but yeah Mizu just read your inbox bout this. Wednesday nights at ski Dubai is freestyle night and they try to change the park section around a fair bit. It is $40 for two hours on this night which is usually enough snowboarding for my liking as it is only a very basic run and I’m not a huge fan of rails. If you guys skate as well you definately have to hit up tashkeel skatepark. One of the best parks and most creative ones out there at the moment. If people want to go just get in a taxi and ask for nad al Sheba police station and it is right next to it. Amazing bowls and what not. If anyone has any questions let us know
