Name the break

Cloud 9.

Too easy. I spent a lot of time there in the early days. One of my favourite waves for sure. Its a bit harsh on boards though. Saw 20 break on day in 96.

The land based pic made it a dead giveaway, the water shot was a lot harder.  This one is very well known.

The contest tents help me think its honalua bay Hawaii?

Has to be Hawaii with the island in the background.

Ya know without those tents i woulda been stumped having never seen the headland in shot before. Heres an easy one.

Africa LOL

Na, I don’t know.

Africa is right but lets get nitty gritty. This wave was leaked to the world because of a competition by a mag using an internet tool.  i watched a video of a go pro body boarder today getting multiple 10 sec barrels. Mesmerising

Oh shit i see Africa at aboutthe bottom oh and a name! you could so get on it with Google skills.

Dunno if it’s called skeleton bay or if it’s something else?  It’s in Namibia though right?

Right on both counts NBG. I think it was surfer mag who offered free trip with some pros to the best wave found on Google earth. Apparently the local are less than stoked now.
The problem with surf travel as i see it is the sponno crew get taken to all the rad spots when they’re on at a moments notice due to swell tracking etc and totally a fuck the vibes in the water with the fly in fly out froth for every wave and give nothing back to the local boys but a memory of how rad they surf and how many waves they catch making it hard for true journey men to not be vibed by locals. WOW one sentence rant Hahaha. But its true it can ruin magic spots like this one.
Oh NBG have u surfed Honalua? Been on my must list for a looong time

I watched a fair few videos of the spot after guessing it, the later ones seem to have quite a few guys running back up the point in them so it looks like it gets a few crew there when it’s on now.

Came up against some weirdness at Pitstops in the Ments a few years back, I think they were sick of the pros owning it all the time.  We ended up making friends with the head guy who was the most vocal but it was a bit ugly at first.

Never surfed Honolua mate, spent a month on Oahu a long time ago now but never made it to the other islands.
