In the immortal words of Pauline, “puhlease explainn” how a wagon is safer than a ute? In my estimation the ute is several degrees safer than the wagon as the load carrying portion is separate from the cabin rendering it impossible for the occupants to be beheaded by flying snowboards in the event of a crash? Almost all modern utes are carrying a 5 star occupancy safety rating as well so I think that your assumption is a little out of date!
Nope not talking about break in.
I was under the impression that utes are not that safe on snowy mountanous road due to the lack of weigh in the back.
Not all utes but some.
A blanket - Utes are awesome for the snow is not that great IMO.
A blanket wagons are good is more justified.
:sigh: I was not my intent to turn this into an use vs them argument.
You’re right regarding Utes (And Vans) that are unladen, oz!!!!!
Today’s Dual Cabs are better though!!!!!
Just depends how you drive them. I wouldnt say one is safer then the other.
It all comes down to the nut behind the wheel
It all comes down to the nut behind the wheel
This more than anything else.
Any Holden commodore utes since 2007/8 put many cars to shame in the handling and safety stakes, the Falcons not so much due the rear leaf spring setup. The dual cabs since last year even unsprung handle really well with the added benefit of 4wd fulltime in some and part time when required in others. Personally I think the times have changed considerably and no longer is the ute the tradie machine it once was, now it’s more than likely the family SUV.
I would way rather have a ute in the snow, the benefits of putting your wet and stinky boots and boards in the back versus travelling back with them in the cabin is really a huge bonus.

They certainly have, my nan has a dual cab hilux 4x4 and its her THIRD one!! she said she would never get anything but a 4x4 ute now
Same model ute v’s same model sedan, equals same handling?????
Sorry fellas, but I don’t buy it!!!!!
yep - just like a V8 touring car handles like a HDT production car.
omg
my first car was pretty big, rear wheel drive and light in the rear so we used to put a couple hundred pounds of sand in the boot - handled pretty rough conditions very well after. I haven’t seen enough volume of snow here to warrant the same as of yet, if we did get one of those winters I’d probably prefer the bus than deal with drivers
My first car my pride and joy!! I miss her, her name was Biddy (name passed down from owner to owner). 1970 model. She did alright considering I drove 100km 5 days a week. She was noisy as anything, her gear shift was all slanty…
I had to sell her because I could no longer afford the maintenance :( I don’t know anything about mechanics and my dad is a plastering/building man not a mechanic expert so I had to take her to the shop to get her fixed and they know how to charge!
Sad face for Ash having to get rid of Biddy Beatle.
2nd gear can be a biatch hey, I’ve installed a good lockout on mine.
The last two posts bring to me carrying a full tool box, trolley jack and an extra 30L of fuel in Jerry cans in the front of my VW to keep the front wheels on the road.
