Sochi Volunteers

Hi Everyone!

I found this thread from google and it has been really helpful! I applied to be a volunteer in July 2012 and completed my EF test shortly after. I had my interview February 2013.

After looking at the previous posts, I had the typical interview questions and had to give situation examples similar to others. Near the end, the interviewer told me I would be considered for two different volunteer positions, either within events or sport, based on my past experiences. Then, she said volunteers will be notified of their acceptance by the end of April.
—But after looking at the previous posts, it sounds like they have extended the acceptance time through May.

Also, my Status Area within the volunteer portal changed to say, “Note: By clicking the ‘Accept Position’ button above you will be confirming your availability to work for the Sochi 2014 Olympics and/or Paralympic Games for a minimum of 10 days as specified in your application form. You are also committing to make yourself available for any training sessions related to the position you are offered, and to uphold the values of the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games: Inspirational, Open, Respectful, Team, Deliver and Distinctive.” But, there’s no position, just Processing Application.

Did this happen to anyone else?
Anyone know what it means?

Thanks!

Hey Everyone! Like most of you I am anxiously awaiting word (either way) whether or not if I’ve been accepted. (Just an FYI for those of you who have been waiting a few days, I started this process in March 2012!)

Seeing as information has been scarce, I sent an email asking what they preferred if a volunteer applicant had a specific question the volunteers.info@SOCHI2014 email or the email address of the person you interviewed with. (I already know the answer but I wanted to see what their response was) Here is the email reply I received:

Good day, thank you for your letter.
We’ll do our best to reply you as soon as possible but please consider delays due to huge amounts of letters we get.

Please read information below, probably it already contains answer to your question.

If you completed your test and want to arrange your interview, please wait for invitation from your Volunteer Center.
If you passed your test but got another invitation for it please ignore. You need to complete your test just once.
Your interview will be via Skype. Our Skype contact will be sent to your email on interview day.
If you can’t arrange your interview session on the portal because all time slots full and closed, please check portal later, we open new dates regularly.
If you want to know whether you’re selected, please wait for notification from your Volunteer Center. Results will follow soon!
If you can’t update your personal information on the portal please send to us we will do it. Please note, it will take us about a week to process your request.

Please visit our website, we added more information here http://vol.sochi2014.com/en/faq/

For any other question please wait for our reply.

Yours,
volunteers.info

Although there appears to be a lot of duplicate information that has already been shared, I thought the quote of “If you want to know whether you’re selected, please wait for notification from your Volunteer Center. Results will follow soon! ” very interesting…

Exactly what is “soon”? Haha!

Thoughts?....

Hi Guys,

So I was playing around in my application form yesterday (there are some things locked and some thing I can still change) and I notice something new.

Under the Volunteer code I have the code ALPOLY? What do we think it means?

I think it stands for Alpine and Olympics. ie i am in the group (either actually selected or being reviewed by that area) for the Alpine area and for the Olympics (not para)

Anyone elese have something in there?

I have emailed to see if I can change my preference to Sport since they do allow snowboarders and not just skiers smile

I have “ALPOLY” set as my Volunteer Code too.
I hope this is good…

Hello - found this forum on google.. thank you everyone for posting!

I am really excited! I just received this email today, “You have passed the tests and interviews. Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee decision about hiring you as a volunteer for the Olympic / Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 will come to your email.
A further step in the selection of volunteers is learning.
Education will be held in the spring of 2013.
All detailed information about the passage of training you receive through the mail.
So is the mail you will receive an invitation to training.

Sincerely,

Has anyone had a second interview?

Hey guys, I joined the Sochi Volunteer Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/SochiVolunteers/) and have been looking at the comments to keep posted on when we will be notified for our status…

This was posted May 1st, 2013—

Simon AuYoung: “I had my interview 2 days ago and were told due to longer processing of volunteer applications than anticipated, I should hear back the news by end if July. Not sure if this is the case for international volunteers only.”

Helen Haile: “I was told the same on Monday too.”

—So, I hope we find out sometime in May, and not July…

By July you pretty much need to have flights.

If I don’t have any notification by then, I’ll be looking elsewhere for my holiday…
