Hey Guys!
I not sure where to go this July, 3/7 for 2 weeks, chile or Argentina. I board (intermediate) and my husband skis (advanced).
We were looking at QT, been before, but was looking for more snow, wider runs and ski in ski out accommodation. We were in Snowmass in January and just LOVED it!! Was hoping to replicate the fun We had in Snowmass in the Southern Hemisphere!
Any suggestions guys??
Hi ya JW,
Not sure if many BW crew have been to Sth America.
I think I recall FMF going recently, he blows in and out a bit, maybe send him a PM or look him up on Facebook. You will find in the Photography section in here.
You could send Tambo and I on a recon mission to check it out for you….....
I know a few people (on separate trips on separate years) who had been to Portillo and highly rated it!
They all rated it highly. I think both trips got snowed in - one did and the other may have got close but the roads were cleared on the morning of departure (they were annoyed about that! LOL)
To me the reason for going would be that I get to see a new country and have an adventure whilst going on a snow holiday. Most of my annual leave is taken up with snow holidays. There are other countries I want to go to (like India) but i will prob not make due to no annual leave…
Any amazing powder days would be a bonus. (but it is at least very possible in Protillo
Thanks for your feedback guys.
I’ll let you know once I am back what the GO is.
In the meantime if you hear of any tips let me know.
J
I’ve had Sth America in my sights for a while now too, JW!!!!!
I like the look/sound of Bariloche!!!!!
Like oz said, it would be more of a travel experience as opposed to a powder search!!!!!
Hey JW,
Not a lot of info that I can provide you at the moment, ask me more in August!!!!
I’m heading over in July, flying into Santiago then heading to Las Lenas for a week. From there will be heading to wine country (Mendoza) for a couple of days before heading back to Santiago for 4 or so days (riding some local hills) before flying home.
A couple of things I can tell you;
- Most of the big places (Las Lenas, Portillo etc) only do 8 day/7 night bookings. Arriving Saturday, departing Saturday.
- Accommodation is $$$$ most places we looked at at Las Lenas are $2,700 - $3,800 for a week, if not more. That however includes accomm, breakfast, dinner & lift tickets.
- From what I’ve read snow conditions can be variable in July.
- From what I’ve read of Las Lenas lifts can close on a regular basis when it’s snowing or due to wind.
- There’s a couple of hills close to Santiago called the 3 valleys (El Colorado, La Parva, Valle Nevado) that you can easily bus to from Santiago on a daily basis.
- I really need to do more about booking the rest of my trip.
We booked our accommodation for Las Lenas with this company - http://southamericaski.com/ - Both Mark & Huere have been really helpful with helping us out. They are also running a bit of a tour for some Americans during the 2nd week we are there including some cat riding which they’ve offered to us as an option also.
