Where are those pics of you all being squashed into the car….

You would have so much more room in the car with a wagon

Ute with a canopy - maybe… but they aren’t as safe as a wagon.

1981 Mitsubishi Sigma GLX Peter Wherrett Special. Was the car I learnt to drive manual in. So much fun. Small car, 2.6l 4cyl and RWD. Drop the clutch and off you go LOL
I wish my parents didnt sell it. Would have loved to restored it

Highly under rated car, the 2.6 was super quick with the 5 speed.

Remind to tell you about the dead dude and The S(t)igma at the shred LOL

Yeh, was a little rocket! Reminds me of an old version of my current mazda 3 with the 2.3l.

I’ll be askin you about that for sure! Your forever telling me to remind you about a story of some sort to tell at the Shred haha

Only thing I didnt like about the car was the interior. It was so disgusting LOL

Ute with a hard lid - maybe… but they aren’t as safe as a wagon.

its a hell of a lot harder to break into my tub than into a wagon, no windows to smash in

Limited space though.

Especially if you have bedding etc

In the immortal words of Pauline, “puhlease explainn” how a wagon is safer than a ute?  In my estimation the ute is several degrees safer than the wagon as the load carrying portion is separate from the cabin rendering it impossible for the occupants to be beheaded by flying snowboards in the event of a crash?  Almost all modern utes are carrying a 5 star occupancy safety rating as well so I think that your assumption is a little out of date!

Utes are without doubt the most useful vehicles out there and as Dylan pointed out, breaking into the back is a lot harder than breaking a window with added benefit of not actually being able to see if there is anything in there worth stealing.

everything has limited space, its just a matter of how limited.
In my ute there is a massive space behind the seats, big enough to fit any reasonable size luggage bad (ill check if i can fit a snowboard bag in there tonight when i get home, pretty sure i can) and then you have a huge, separate, safer space in the back. If you cant fit all that you need in there, your over packing!!!

I drove one of these for a few months, it was auto but still had balls (especially for a 4cyl auto). Agree re: the interior.

NBG, I think oz was more referring to gear being stolen.

A gf I had owned a Hilux ute with a canopy. It was great! she drove all over oz in it. She had a lounge chair in the back, all her gear and still had room for her swag. She lived out of it and even spent weeks in the snow (before getting a bed at my place wink ). Nothing was ever stolen even though it’s greatest security was a zipper. But dam the thing was underpowered.

pics were before roof racks.. Now we all sit comfortably in the car.. (like any normal trip…)

and my car looks awesome ( not a fan of wagons.. I love my sedans with a spoiler!!)
