Who else is planning on doing some camping this season?
I’m thinking about it, that or my car. Trying to cram as many days down there as possible, plenty of one night stays so need to do it on the cheap.
Do it every year and this one will be no different!
Any tips NBG? I’ll have to meet a few of you Sydney folks, might be able to carpool some trips.

I have one, don’t car pool with NGB, looking at him makes my eyes hurt and when he talks I get drops of blood in my ears, I can’t even bear thinking about the smell is that bad. As for camping, unless you’ve been on an African safari and found the noise of angry grunting rhinoceros soothing, you won’t get any sleep.
Hahahahahaha
Hahaha love it! I’ll be down there a heap but it’s unlikely I’ll be camping. Too much equipment (which I have none of) and have people around with places / couches.
There is also a good chance that my (non BW) friends will want to go (and therefore hire out a place for a weekend) and I’ll stay with them or I can tag along with people on their trips and just bring a sleeping bag and some pillows and couch / floor surf.

Post of the year!!!
Ha ha ha, oh Dyldo I missed this one! That’s ok champ, I’ll still give you lifts up the hill, even let you stay in the tent, I will provide tampons for you ears that will allow you to soak up the blood whilst I talk and block your ears while I sleep. As far as the off cheese smell is concerned, that aint me and I suggest you blame you parents for not being Jewish….................
Ok on to more serious stuff in regards to camping as per the OP’s question.
In regards to where you camp thats up to you but I like the one in Jindy town on the lake, not the one near the Thredbo/Skitube turn off for the main reason that you can walk to all the pubs/restaurants from there. The other option for a more core experience is take the turn off to Guthega and try Island bend. There is other places that Spaz can probably mention in the Thredbo end of things.
As far as gear is concerned for the tent a major consideration is buying one that’s windproof. I have yet to really have to deal with much in the way of rain or snow but wind is a completely different story, some nights is 100kmh plus gusts roaring across the lake and smashing into the tent. The noise you can live with but when the tent itself is beating you in the side of the face sleep is just a memory.
A larger tent that allows you to stand up is great for a lot of reasons but also provides a higher profile to be targeted by the wind. In that instance a canvas tent with more substantial poles (ie not the flexible discombobulating folding type) that provide a good solid frame. I don’t have a lot of experience with big tents but a fair few people in the campgrounds seem to have some sturdier modern designs. A lot of it comes down to a little bit of forethought in how and where you set it up and making sure your tie downs are done well, good pegs and ropes and spring tensioners can make a big difference.
When I go by myself for a weekend all I take is a tiny two man tent, my big camper trailer is not worth it for such a small amount of time and just for me. With bedding I go for comfort, I have a clark rubber 100mm think mattress for my tent and then my trailer has a built in king size mattress. I take a queen size doona and a sleeping bag and sleep in my thermal skins, snowboard socks and a tshirt and haven’t had any issues with the cold.
Apart from that I tend to just take a couple of chairs to sit around in when you’re having a few drinks at the end of the day. I don’t cook when I camp, I usually go to the pub for dinner and grab a BnE roll in the mornings but there’s no reason why you couldn’t.
There’s probably more to it but if there’s any questions let me know.

Oh and i didnt mention before, but this year i will also be camping, now that i have the ute it is so easy to have the mattress or swag set up, sleep in it, then in the morning just close the tub up and leave everything as is, ready for the next night.
just noticed this in the rates page
What you getting at with that one? You want to share a site?
might as well. why pay for two when we can halve the cost?
Yeah must be a new thing, I seem to remember it used to be one car only?
