Howdy,
I recently moved to the coast in Vic. I see a lot of people riding long boards about as there is a big surf community here. Just wondering if any one uses one? They look like some fun especially to fly to the supermarket and back.
Dont have one, i like riding my normal board even if Im cruising. Have thought about gettign one of the Evolve electric boards though.
Where bouts on the coast have you moved mate?
I used to work for a place that sold Arbor longboards and we would ride the demos to lunch. Lots of fun but that is their only use unless you want to be a “skateboard sliding guy kinda thing”
I have some of Arbors 65mm soft wheels on a normal skateboard and I like that way more cause you can ollie and manual etc.
I wouldn’t buy a long board personally. My cruiser is also my transition board and I love it. But I guess if you only have a little street setup and you don’t like skating transition at all then a long board could be good.
G’day lads gotta say if u surf and snowboard longboards are great. I ride downhill and when it’s not to steep it’s like carving a groomer. Steep is all about speed and railing corners. Hitting switchbacks at speed is awesome! And being the slide guy is a bloody good thing. Doin that at speed is scarey at first but when the wheels break loose at 60 plus ks ...wooohoo! But most likely what u talking about is cruising to the beach, shops etc. so watchthe old classic whirling dervish on YouTube. Crosssteppin goodness. Flatland pumping is like riding a down the line wave.
Get the need for speed into ya….but remember the old 70s slogan, heroes wear helmets.
Cheers
PS all references of skating like surfing or snowboarding are only reference. Nothings ever the same haha
Oh, I didn’t mean the whole “sliding guy” thing as an insult. Some guys around my area do it and I think it looks rad! I just don’t know what to call it specifically.
Actually I would probably do it myself, but being a snowboard instructor, if I break a bone or two on the roads… I can’t work. So it’s just not an option for me.
I really like all the Arbor long boards and Land Yachts are cool too.
I do recommend getting a long board with some kind of tail kick tough. Even if it’s just a little point or a swallow tail, u kinda need one to lift the front wheels over gutter lips and grates etc. if you are taking the footpath, so you can keep a nice flow in your trip without having to step off.
Haha no your right i realise no negativity i was just adding to your term. A kicj on a cruiser is a good idea. I got an old plank thats 46 inches long with nose and tail kick and it adds a bit of fun doin g turns and stuff. Like my 38 for downhill though.
learning to slide does hurt!
Longboards are good for training your bottom turn muscles - surfing.
And good for imagining your snowboarding.
They are also a fun transport option to get home from the pub late at night.
I think longboarding is going to have to become an option for me to continue rolling. My back has been doing the spaz thing lately so to keep the fix going, going to need to find a deck.
Love old school decks for cruising though, with some big softies loaded on them. Arbor did an awesome setup for cruising/still being able ollie. The bug, just a bit longer than a standard deck with a big tail, small nose, reverse hanger trucks and 65mm softies. Craved brilliantly as well has the potential to ollie up them curbs.

This is my Cruiser/Transition board and I LOVE IT!!!
9” x 38” with wheel cut outs and the same 65mm Soft Arbor wheels you are talking about! (I used to distribute Arbor stuff).
Why didn’t you add the img tags Andy?
Is that set up pretty heavy Andy? Imagine it would be. Would be good for keeping momentum in transition, but ollieing while cruising would be challenging I would think

I moved to Jan Juc, Victoria near Torquay.
I wouldn’t mind setting up a Elephant board with some big wheels for the cruise.

Thats not a bad idea either get some bigger, smoother wheels for the cruise.
