I didn’t know you had one.
Just had a convo with the geeky data guy here at work about mine…
I was hesitant to discuss it with him cause if he knew much about it he would know that it is wifi only and the wifi passowrd here is under lock and key! I conveniently memorized it when i got given the ipad haha!

Yeah I’ve had a Nexus 10 since late December. Currently trying to justify a new phone purchase but my GS2 just keeps on giving!
Haha who on earth keeps the WPA password from a fellow employee! Maybe he’s not too fussed about it as surely he’d be able to see “Kims Nexus” showing up in the DHCP client list when you log in.
Having said that when I can’t be bothered using others wifi I’ll just tether to my phone or use my pocket wifi (don’t miss integrated 3g much at all)
He is a wanker!
Although TJ showed me how to run chrome as an app on the PC and he saw it the other day and was all “you know i have to remove that” i looked at him all innocently and doe eyed (which is hard for me as you can imagine!) I sooo wanted him to come back to my desk to remove it and not be able to find it in my add/remove programs. I shut it down immediately and when he came back to fix my problem he forgot haha
But I am concerned about him seeing it… he is external contractor and only comes in once a week (if that!). Will I get busted then? I don’t bring it in every day its just that Fridays are quiet around here!

Haha bloody IT contractors!!
Innocent and doe eyed, I’ll believe it when I see it…
To answer your question without getting into complicated things like spoofing then yes all it would take is a quick look at the router/AP/DHCP server and he would be able to see your devices name, MAC address and IP address.
A simple step would be to make sure your devices name isn’t something as obvious as “Kim’s Nexus” as that’s kind of a red flag. If you know the naming scheme of other devices on the network you could name it something similar so it blends in.
You might also be able to set a static IP address that’s in the networks subnet (which will stop you showing up as a DHCP lease) but personally that would piss me off more if I had people doing that on my network as it can cause issues.
Tell me how to rename my device? Also how to see the name of the ipad? I will name to something similar.
But if he is so protective about the password does that mean he would even bother looking?
Although he is such a wanker that he prob likes lording it over us - ie hiding the password. Even though he knows he would know if anyone had access illegally!
Actually now I look into it, the android will identify itself as something like “android-12345abcde” so other than the android bit it won’t really point the finger at you. To change the device ID I believe you need to be rooted or using a custom rom so might be in the too hard basket.
With the ipad the device id is usually set in itunes. So when you plug it into the computer it will show up as something like “Kims ipad” under devices and you should be able to simply rename it from there.
An easier way would be to go to settings/general on the ipad and tap the bit that says name and change it to whatever you want.
As for whether he’d bother looking, who knows but from a network admin standpoint there’s often times you’ll need to access client lists/dhcp leases etc so it would be pretty easy to stumble over.

But only if I am on it at the time?
Or from Monthly reports?
To give you an idea, I access our wireless list at least once a week.
Though thats normally to give people access because I don’t really give 2 shits if they are on lol
