snowslider - re: the credit cards, I must disagree. Through various promotions via credit cards, etc +1 and I have managed to fly overseas every year for 5 years without having to pay for an airline ticket.  At a guess, we have probably saved $25,000 in airline tickets without any real change to our normal credit card spend.
I don’t fly for work as much as I used to, so I admit I am a bit of “points accumulator” in that I am always on the lookout for promotions offering bonus points, etc. For example Amex had a promotion where if you joined up with a particular credit card you would get 50,000 points. The annual fee was around $400, but it included a free domestic flight (prolly worth around $250), leaving $150 to really fork out. Earning 50,000 points alone would require a spend of at least $33,000, so to effecticely spend $150 and get 50,000 points was a bargain. I ended up getting the fee wavied, meaning i got a real free domestic flight AND 50,000 points - I was pretty stoked. Of course everyone’s circumstances are different

No kids, am the super cool uncle to 2 nieces who are awesome though

Don’t have kids as a I don’t have a desire to have them atm….. +1 feels the same which helps! We are mid 30s so we dont have forever but if we miss the boat then so be it. Babysitting my nieces has given me a sense of how tough it is to be a parent. I have a real respect for mums and dads!
