Oh well then, he should disregard looking at MOSS (Or any other brand that was mentioned in here for that matter), and get a Burton Fish!!!!!
Make sure he gets some Burton Bindings too, cause they are the best!!!!!
I originally clicked on the link to the board without a swallow tail. The Fish also has an (albeit smaller) swallow tail.
The whole idea with the Fish is to create maximum float on the shortest board possible. You are meant to downsize. Who wants to be on a huge board when you’re flying through tight trees? My point is, it’s not necessary size that matters; shape and camber profile are more important considerations.
I’m not saying the Moss Swallow wouldn’t be great in powder because it looks like it would be sick!
They also incorporate concave in the nose to help float, they also have a range that has heaps of different shapes/profiles!!!!!
My original post of the links to their biggest boards, was in response to Gamblor claiming that Japanese Brands don’t cater for a large guy, and I was merely giving examples that they do!!!!!
Along with the Burton Fish, I have never ridden (Also made this clear in my original post) any MOSS Boards, but being the observant old fart that I am, clearly saw (And also spoke to guys on the lifts) about MOS Boards, as I had noticed so many crew riding them in Pow, on Groomers, and in the Gated Areas through trees!!!!!
If the OP had taken Gamblor’s word for there bein no Japanese made boards that were suitable for his weight, then I was merely showing that there was!!!!!
Next time I’ll just recommend the Fish, and save myself the drama!!!!!
No drama, mate. Are you getting more sensitive now that you are a grandbear?
I was just referring to your point on specs and size.
Bigger specs all round than the Burton Fish 160
I think it’s important for anyone reading this to understand it’s not all about size.
As I said, that Moss board looks like it would rip in the pow. I for one, would love to try it.
I suggested several boards in my original reply. I can only recommend one of them based on personal experience, and that is the Burton Fish. In my experience and everything I have come to learn about powder boards, the Burton Fish is always considered up there with the best. The Fish is at least worth some serious consideration.
It was a comparison in reply to Gamblor’s statement that they weren’t big enough!!!!! It wasn’t a size recommendation for the OP!!!!!
That’s all!!!!!
The MOSS Pintail’s are Tapered as well, but like I also mentioned, the Swallow Tail will sink (along with the setback stance) the board in the same way as the Taper does too!!!!!
They will however, have a different feel/behavior than one another!!!!!
The Swallow Tail also keeps it’s more traditional sidecut to that of a normal board, and I would therefore think (And also by vids, and what I saw) will carve well on a groomer also!!!!! And matchin what the OP mentioned he was after!!!!!
Ohhh, size doesn’t matter to me!!!!! Why are you always on about size anyway????? SMS gettin ya down again?????
I think it’s important for anyone reading this to understand it’s not all about size.
Michelle tells Jez that a LOT!
Ha ha
I was gonna add that one in as well, but I thought the Short Man Syndrome was a low enough blow as it was!!!!!
Low enough blow, get it!!!!!
Hey Guys and Girls,
I am looking for a new board, i have a YES 164 pick your line at the moment and want something that will let me really
carve the powder.I am 191cm tall, weigh 96kg and have a size 12 boot.
Considering your size, and the fact that you’re cool with longer boards, I’m throwing the Signal Epic 166 into the mix. Signal’s “Wavelength” is quite similar to YES’ “Camrock”.
From Signal:
New for the 2012-13 season is the EPIC! This twist on an old school powder board is modernized by adding wavelength technology. The topsheet is made with a hand-stained wood laminate like our ETT Netherlands and Kidwell episodes. And to make it even more epic, weve added the split board as yet another option. Powder has never looked so good!
All things to all mountain riders! Rocker and camber blended together create Wavelength technology.
• Camber between your feet
• Five degree Rocker from your feet out to the tip and tail
• Rocker keeps your nose up in powder while the camber provides edge control while you carve
• The transition point provides an additional contact point that engages even before the edge
• Less surface area on the snow equals a faster board!
• Old school powder shape, directional stance
• Directional sidecut
• Poplar cores with “Standard Profile”
• Biaxial glass top and bottom
• Durasurf sintered base material
• Laminate maple topsheet not only adds a different look and feel to the board, it also adds tip to tail strength and replaces any need for carbon stringers
• Standard or Split options
Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the feedback on POW boards. I have decided to go with Moss and am going to get the 160 Performance Quad.
Its size is new this season and hopefully will be what i am after.
Once again thanks for your help
Nice!!!!!
That’s the Swallowtail that has the Flyers on it yeah?????
Nice one, Jared! They look like awesome boards. Please let us know how it rides!
I think I want one now!!!!!
My Mrs is gonna divorce me!!!!!
Hey Guys,
Yeah i am pretty stoked about the board. If i could figure out how to post an image up i would put a couple up.
Its a new size 160, blue and white and looks like a weapon. I was a bit unsure as its narrower than my Yes and has a smaller waist, but have been re assured that it will be all good.
They have a deal on at the moment, it comes with a free neoprene sole cover. The guys there are a wealth of knowledge for someone like me that doesn’t know all the technical lingo, and are a pleasure to deal with.
I will let you know how it goes Jez.
Thanks Mizu and all you guys for the help again.
