So here I am choosing a snowboard
After so many years of surfing and skateboarding,
this year I finally got the chance to try snowboarding,
It was amazing even with the old and worn out rental gear.
Got the basics pretty fast and overall I think I’m not bad
So now I’m thinking of getting my own board for the next seasons to come…
As much as I’m no expert, from reading around a bit I found that
I want to be lookingg for something free-stylish cuz I watched a few vids,
And I want to start for with the switch shredding and butters for
that I’ll prolly be looking for a soft board with the Burton Freestyle bindings
I already got I searched around a bunch and come to these 3 boards..
From what I’ve learned so far these 3 are just fine for a begginer freestyler
For their true twin shape, soft flex and most important the under 300$ price tag
Which should be fine for my first board ever
So which u think is best? Which 1 should I get or maybe
Advice a different board that u think will be more suitable..
Thanks is advance!!
Welcome to Boardworld, SnowMow.
I would suggest you read this thread to give you a better understanding of the different camber profiles.
The Del Rey has full camber while the Draft has full rocker. Both are true twins with a soft flex. So the big difference is the camber profile. Have a read of the article above to give you an idea of how this will effect the ride. In a nutshell, the Draft will be more “catch-free”, and easier to turn, butter and press etc. The Del Rey will have more pop, stability and carving performance. As you can see, both have their advantages. It’s up to you to decide which of these camber profiles appeals to you more.
The Burton Blunt is most similar to the Draft; also featuring a full rocker profile and true twin shape.
A couple of other boards in this price category that I would throw into the mix are the YES Basic and the GNU Carbon Credit. The YES Basic features a hybrid camber profile, with camber between the feet, and rocker at the nose and tail. It also has a soft flex and twin shape. If you are looking for the best of both worlds, consider this as an option.
Any of the above five boards would be suitable for you. They all ride a bit differently so it’s important to understand the differences, then get whichever one appeals the most to you.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for the quick replay:)
I do k ow the difrence between camber and rocker but the hybrids get me confused
I’ll prolly start with a rocker board since most the pop I’ll be using is Ollie’s and Nollie’s
In and out of presses and maybe minor rails boxes and jumps..
Now bout hybrid that rock/cam/rock will preform as good in buttering as a v rocker?
Camber will be better for Ollie’s/Nollie’s!!!!!
Rocker better for Presses!!!!!
Rocker/Camber/Rocker is closer to a Cambered Board!!!!!
Camber/Rocker/Camber is closer to a Rockered Board!!!!!
And welcome, SnowMow!!!!!
Okay so I’ve set my mind on the draft it’s soft rocker should be fine for the first few years
As much fun as it gets with carving and precision turns, besides I won’t be needing so much pop
On my board…
Thanks for ur tips sure were helpful
Draft all the way!
I have one, my husband has had one and I’m completely sold. This is my 4th board and I love riding freestyle (park jumps, few boxes and goofing around) and carving on slopes….I now can’t imagine myself buying any other board after this one.
For a rocker, it has really good pop and we’ve both found it to perform very well with carving, even though all the recommendations and reviews you’ll read may suggest otherwise. I’m sure the Del Rey is also a great board, but for my needs I don’t think I need anything stiffer.
Also the griptech (wavy edges) are just awesome for extra edge hold on icy patches etc. I was not expecting to have that opinion either, I had the feeling the griptech/magnetraction phenom was just some kind of gimmick but I almost immediately felt the difference.
Just to add to cords.. I won’t buy a board with out magnetraction (grip tech) after last season.. being newer to boarding than all my friends. And going down in spring… Hitting ice patches.. And riding them with no hassle.. To turn around and see more experienced riders slide out and fall over had made me fall in love with it.. Lol
