Binding recommendations and help

Avatar

Hey looking at getting some new bindings and wondering what you all recommend.
I’m doing perisher this season and Japan at end of year.
Plan to spend most of the time in the park.
Size 13 hoof, 88kgs, 6ft ha if that helps….

I’ve got k2 bindings ATM can’t tell you what model until I get back home in a week but the back plate is kinda Shaped into a skull. (black with black and white checkered pads)...

Problem is the angle disk is made from rounded plastic teeth, and I’ve been finding that after as little as 2-3 runs my stance is changing dramatically. I’ve tried tightening then to the point I don’t want to thread my board.

Help would be appreciated and recommendations for some new ones :D

If all else fails there’s always liquid nails

Yep, time for new bindings. The least important bit of kit behind boots and board in my opinion. Find a set that fit your boot well and have a good ratchet system - take your boots with you. Also know that most bindings have many areas for adjustments, so might pay to have a play if you don’t get a perfect fit straight up. Beyond this it’s really just comes down to looks. Snowbiz in town (your in Brizzy right?) has a pretty good range.

If all else fails, liquid nails get you sorted til you buy a new set - super ghetto though.

If ya K2’s are still in good nick, contact either K2 via email or ring around a few K2 Dealers to see if they can get a replacement disc for them????? (As long as the teeth on the baseplate are still in reasonable condition, that is)

Even if you then buy another pair of bindings, you’ll have a second back-up pair if ya ever need them!!!!!

Everyone will shoot me down for this recommendation (As they always do for some ****ed up reason), but have a look at either the FLUX DS30 for a great park/all rounder, or the FLUX RK30 for a Park/Street Specific Binding!!!!! Lifetime Warranty on ALL FLUX Baseplates, and they even throw in a spare Ankle & Toe Ladder to save ya havin to deal with a broken strap and losin the rest of ya day ridin!!!!!

The other Crew can tell ya what models in other brands that will suit ya condition!!!!!

I am a big fan of Burton bindings. I still think the Burton Cartels are one of the best value bindings on the market. If you don’t want to spend too much but want top performance, the Cartels should definitely be in your short list. RRP: $329.95 in Australia. You will definitely need size large in Burton (or the largest size available for any other brand).

I was going to give Flux a recommendation as well, but I thought I would leave it to you. wink

I was pretty stoked with the DS45s I had a couple of seasons ago, and the newer models look even better.

Maybe try a little bit of loc-tite on the thread of the binding screws, hell why not try a bit of loc-tite on the disk teeth too!

I probably don’t know nearly as much as everyone else here but I have ROME bindings and they have been awesome. I purchased ROME MOB’s with my board last season and they didn’t let me down once (apart from me being a spud/uncoordinated and standing on a frozen strap).

I’m going to leave my MOB’s on my forum the deck and upgrade and buy this years 390 BOSS bindings for my new forum the destroyer. Which will eliminate my uncoordinated problems because they have the strap tensioner that pulls the strap away from the binding to make it easier to get in and out of. Definitely worth the upgrade!

Have a look into them you can buy them pretty cheap from places like the-house.com even with shipping it works out cheaper. But since I have a good rapport with my local store Ballistyx I will probably go in and get a pair soon!

Yer I have heard that too. I might even consider getting the ROME TARGA’s but from what I hear the 390 BOSS are that good you may as well save your money (even tho its only $20 online). I’m still doing research to understand what canting is cause if you don’t need it the normal 390’s are even cheaper than the BOSS’. Put it this way I have only had my bindings for a year and i’m set on rome love the brand and everything about them.

Canting is the angle of the binding footbed in relation to the inside and outside of the foot. Generally, a footbed is flat, meaning you stand with flat feet on the board. Imagine the footbed is now angled in towards the inside of your feet (see images below); it is a more natural stance and eases strain on the knees. That is what they mean by canted bindings.

The Rome 390 Boss uses the “Yes I Cant” system in the video below.

The image examples below illustrate canted footbeds.

I’ve been stoked on my Rome 390 Boss. I use the 2.5 canting option. Only downsides that I’ve noted is they really could do with an extra size option as S/M and L/XL leaves a size 9.5 like me stuck in the middle. The paint chipped quickly on mine (who cares) and you need to dedicate a couple of months to set them up as they have so many adjustments.

The targas are a completely different binding when it comes to stiffness and weight so I would your style of riding and board decide which is a better fit rather than the price difference.

Ride has canted footbeds as well, in conjunction with the metal heel cup and baseplate that’s one of the reasons I have their bindings.

Targa’s are stiffer than the 390 and more suited to Freeride etc, and to add to what the others have said about canting, a canted footbed is good for riders that have a wide stance also as it compensates for the increased angle that the legs are positioned in!!!!!

Some bindings will have different foam densities in their footbeds, that allow canting when the movement of the body/boot/rider requires it!!!!! ie It has Soft Spots along the inside foot arch area that compress and give a slanted angle (cant) to the footbed!!!!!

I currently have rome 390 boss with the 2 degree YES I CANt system installed. only issue i seem to have is the rear toe cap/strap coming off everynow and then after hitting the park jumps. Apart from that they are killer.

Rome 390 boss absolutely love em, great all around bindings I used em for park use mostly jumps and bettering around and they rock, great lateral flex for presses and setting up for spins, the canted footbeds are great and the bindings have unlimited adjustments, highly recommend you will not be disappointed.
