The BOARDWORLD Forums ran from 2009 to 2021 and are now closed and viewable here as an archive
Also with the mobile app… don’t forget windows Phone 8.. my last 3 phones have been windows… and now most of our friends are getting them after playing with ours..
The eventual app will be for iPhone and Android. We won’t forget anyone.
i will be the high 5 guy, high 5ing everyone as they enter the boardworld hotel of radness.
Plus if it hasnt been suggested already, can we get a img & youtube button in the quick reply bit??
Will look into it.
We won’t forget anyone.
Not making an app for Blackberry or windows phones (which is not android) is forgetting people - yes they are minority but still forgetting people
Having a clean mobile web based forums page only will make those without out the app happy. And the page hits on those phones will be relatively small!
Along the lines of what oz said I’d actually prefer the new forums/website was done from the ground up with “Responsive Web Design” rather than relying on an app for each platform. Every device has a browser and with responsive web design it will look good on all of them with next to no hassle.
Personally I’d much rather just have BW open in another tab in my browser rather than having to go into a seperate app each time.

Shows what I know. I thought they were all “Android”. This is why I employ experts.

So you mean just a mobile version of the site that works with all phone browsers?
Yep!!!
Most iphone users do prefer apps. But anyone else who users other operating systems would think like DRC. ie prefering a web based page than an app.
Spend your money on the iphone app and then use the savings from not doing other apps but building a decent web based solution for mobile browers.
I have heard from other sites that web based mobile apps are not great at appealing to sponsor (cause of page hits… and there is not much sponsoring/ads on mobile pages) if this is not a concern for you - awesome!!
Maybe a poll?
Do you prefer an app or decent web-based mobile browsing. and what system you use.
Maybe a survey monkey survey?? They are free.
For the experience if you right me a list of questions I will happily have a play on survey monkey(ie do it for you)
Ideas for survey monkey questions
what mobile phone platform do you use do you use (choices woudl be iphone, andriod, windows, blackberry - did i miss any?)
Do you think you anticipate changing the above in the future - if yes to what
If we we had an app for your phone would you use it, or prefer mobile browsing.
What is the most important thing to you in terms of BW on your smart phone.
ie
Quick scan, minmal posts.
TR on the file (ie easy linking to posting photos end or video) when on the fly.
Oh and somewhere maybe we could ask - is your smart phone/tablet your primary access to BW

Haha you’re not the only one. The amount of people that think Samsung = Android and vice versa is growing.

Yeah that’s the simple way of looking at it. Basically it’s the current approach to web design which makes the website automatically scale to fit a variety of viewing devices/resolutions so you achieve a similar user experience on each device. The end product should end up with no scrolling/zooming/resizing no matter what you are using.
As far as I know it’s not a seperate site such as m.boardworld.com.au but rather the same site scaling so only ONE website to build/maintain.
I’m not a web designer so it’s not my strong point and I have absolutely no idea what’s involved at code level. I’m sure any designers on here will have more input.
I just think you could be in for a world of hurt maintaining an app for each different platform when the same result can be achieved within a browser.
I’d also hate to have to load a seperate app for each of my favourite websites, much prefer tabbed browsing.
Another option is a lot of forums also integrate platforms like tapatalk into them which can make forum functions on a mobile more efficient.
Edit: Have only skim read this (actually busy at work!) but this seems to cover some of what I was on about. http://mashable.com/2012/12/11/responsive-web-design/ and this one has some screenshot examples http://www.copyblogger.com/mobile-responsive-design-101/

I didn’t even think of it like that!
I was just thinking of money!
Just think Rider. you are already thinking of the next version BW (beyond the current one you are developing)
Imagine multiply that for multiple apps! Yikes!

See for me I would prefer to PAY for a BW app (if good) than pay for tapatalk!

Yep with constant OS updates on various devices requiring new apps it would kind of suck.

I’d much rather not have either and use the browser. However it is an option if for some reason a responsive site/bw app doesn’t eventuate. The purchase price of tapatalk is also diluted when used on a multitude of other forums that support it.

I agree! But if it was purely a choice between tapatalk and a BW app to pay for. I would prefer BW.
I always choose the browser version of websites unless poor reception like in the snow!
Unless it’s something like the perisher app that has features more “useable” by using the app.
