Sochi Volunteers

Folks

Just wanted to let you all know that I just finished my Skype interview with John who is from Canada.  Even though I could not see him and the connection was the greatest it went well.  I want to say thank you to all of you that gave some insight as it helped a lot.  It was truely a Behavioural Based interview style.  For those of you that may still have an interview reviewed those types of questions.  Tell me a Time When you help someone were angry, did something wrong, lost control, disobeyed the rules, skills do you bring, etc.

Brush up on your knowledge of Alpine Skiing..

Good Luck

Hey everyone,
I’m just wondering a couple of things.
Has anyone been actually offered a position yet? Seems like most of us have had our interviews, bad connections and all, but any solid offers?
Also, is Elena primarily a contact for Alpine volunteering? I’d love to get in touch with her if anyone would be so kind as to provide me with her information.
I’m hoping to be involved in village operations, so I won’t be scooping any positions from you lovely alpine folks here!
I sure do hope to see you all next year at the games!

In one of the earlier posts, I believe someone said he had to go to a test event and did have a position.  I think the rest of us, are all still waiting for an answer.

Thanks for the welcoming angiodan, I had my interview on 12 march it went well the guy was funny trying to takl in spanish hehe…but well mine was language services and I had to translate between languages some audios…so I guess it is different from each other…btw…they asked about the SOCHI Symbols…it’s not the Olympic symbols and its not the russian symbols…I just managed to say the heart is for volunteers HAHAHA but not sure….I can’t even find them online!...so study

I just came back from Sochi. Exactly from Krasnaja Poliana, where are the main venues from mountain cluster. I met a lot of volunteers from all over the world, even from Canada and USA. I didn’t have a lot of work because the weather. Meals and accommodation was very good, except the lunch in place of work (they were trying to spend the least money they could). All Sochi, Adler and Krasnaja Poliana look like big construction site. Russian are doing enormous job now to finish in time. They are treating volunteers really good. I didn’t expect so good conditions of accommodation etc. I got news that there is building volunteers village. I thinks it’s large and close to the Lena, Rosa Hutor and Ruskie Gorki. I had great time there. I don’t know what more I can say. Ask me smile

Sounds great.  Nice to hear the accomadations are decent, as well as most meals.  Doesn’t surprise me about the construction.

Thanks for the update, and hopefully we’ll hear our status soon.  I think the waiting is getting to most of us.

How many people did you share with in the accom?

Did you get 3 meals a day or only meals when on shift?

How long was your shift?

Were your shifts everyday? or say 4/5/6 days a week?

Ohhh good point TJ.

Koonja - how many days were you actually there, and how many days were you expected to work (before the weather affected your shifts)

I was there a week, without counting days of arrival and departing. I should work every day during European Cup (6 days) but the weather was really bad, so I worked only two days. I was in room with one person however there was possibility to share it with another one. Every day I had three meals. The longest shift was 8 hours. smile
