At this stage I had left school, got a job and my first loan ($5000).
How I convinced dad to let me buy this is amazing -he must have been drunk- he even guaranteed the loan!FJ40 Landcruiser with heavily worked 350 chev.
He tried to steer me toward a modified yellow nissan silva. Back in those day no real petrol head drove a modified Jap car.
The thing was a beast - called it “troglodite”. Eventually I did break it, which is expected since I would launch it out of dry dam walls and bush bash the thing. I even drove it down Bulli Pass without breaks to go surfing.
I sold it for $2000 firing only on 7cylinders and a moaning diff. Wish I could find an actual pic of it with it’s 90’s graphics stuck down the side.Drag raced it once against a RX4 and the FJ40 beat it over 1/8!
man i would love to get one of those even now.
My Brother Outlaw has the UTE Version!!!!!
It’s a friggen Work Horse, and he treats it like shit!!!!!
He has got a pretty rugged property that he drives it around though!!!!!
Well I’ve done some digging around and can not complete the chronological order of my cars.
I learnt in my parents Ford Falcon Futura Classic
I was handed down the Mitsubishi L300 Express once on my P’s
My first car I bought was a Mitsubishi Magna Advance. This is the car where I got all the mod stuff out of my system. It ended up with upgraded rims, lowered, scarily expensive sound system + sound deadening etc. Photo of actual car.
And the car I currently drive a 2011 Skoda Octavia VRS (essentially a kitted out Golf GTI in a liftback body) Absolutely love the european fitout in the car but admittedly a little nervous of servicing once warranty is out. Up until now I’ve been holding off on the temptation of a chip remap.
My dad’s car when I was a kid looked a lot like this one. Pretty gutless and completely devoid of any safety apparatus, but a true 4WD.
my old man also had one of these! It was like a tank, could take it anywhere, except for one ill fated 4x4 expeditian where we got it bogged in a bush track, dad had to walk out to find help, eventually found a farm many hours later and the guy pulled us out with his tractor. It was sold not too long after that, i think my mum spending 3 or so hours with 3 kids in a stranded car in the middle of a boggy marsh with leaches the size of snakes attacking anyone foolish enough to venture outside the safety of the cars confinds might have had something to do with it leaving our ownership
Heh I have a memory of us sitting around while dad and some other 4WDs tried to pull out some big motorhome that the idiot driver had taken on a remote sandy track. Dad had us sitting right out of the way in case the tow cable snapped and whipped around, while he, of course, decided to stand right next to it. I remember the cable snapping with a bang, and then fortunately falling straight on the ground with dad standing there with his arms over his head like an ape. Great times!
That car Muddy ^^^^^, I had one sitting in the yard at work for years, serious rust problems.
I decided to take to the tip, poured 5 litres of petrol in, grabbed a battery for it out of my cruiser to get it started, fired on 3rd try
Removed battery while it was still running and headed off to the tip. My apprentice was following in a Mazda Bravo cab / chassis 2.2 litre. There was a short steep hill on the way, so I gave it shit and the ute didn’t even look at the old Datto
Yeah mine had a bit of rust in the door. My brother-in-law replaced the engine and gearbox so I ended up with a nice 5 speed, but it did have a shithouse whine in 5th on the highway.

A Czech we have here at work swears Skodas are made in the same factory as VWs. Sounds like a good buy.
Our current Subie, an 06 Outback 3.0R!!!!!
Still great to drive, and it’s got the goods when needed!!!!!
Yeah that’s a nice car, Miz. I test drove one of those when we bought our Forester in 06 and liked it a lot. We tossed up between the Outback and Forester for our new car and went with the Foz mainly because it just got its mid-cycle update and had more tech on it. My old Foz was also an 06 and I have to say there have been some pretty big advances in technology - especially the electronics - since then.
Yeah, this one was the Premium Model, and at the time it had everything that was goin!!!!!
Had a business at the time, so the Tax Man chipped in for some of the Extras!!!!!
We traded an 03 Forester in on it!!!!! Great car, but this thing was a Luxury Rocket in comparison!!!!!

Yeah we’ve gone Premium this time, too. Will be nice to have a few bells and whistles after the pretty spartan old model. New one arrives on Tuesday arvo, yew!
Nice!!!!!

He’s kind of right. Skoda is part of the VAG Group i.e Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen.
Part for part the vRS is near identical to the VW golf GTI but it is assembled in a different factory (Skodas in Czech Republic and VW’s in either Germany of South Africa)
The good news is the Czechs are damned good at putting them together and as a result year after year they win the car of the year and reliability polls over in Europe.
I’m too young to remember but apparently this is a far cry from Skoda before they were taken over by VAG as apparently back then they belonged with the likes of Lada’s as truly horrible pieces of junk.
My first car was a Nissan Pulsar GTi-R. I dont know if it is possible to describe what part it played in my life? It pretty much was my life.
I have owned it since i was 20
Nice!!!!!
Turbo?????
Yep!
Hands down my fav car I have owned is this one.
1973 Ford Mk1 Escort.
Had a 1600 in it. Balanced/blueprinted, head work, twin webbers. Sounded great, handled like a go kart, and was surprisingly quick for a small car.
I wish I never got rid of it. I’ve been looking another car to fill the void ever since.
One day (hopefully soon) I’ll get another one.
This is not mine, but pretty close.
