I forgot to mention, if Mizu comes to visit you, your spending should drop dramatically, while your beer and chicken wing intake increases exponentially.
Haha yeh planning on niseko for a month in January. And season next time.
That helps heaps. Should get enough vitamens out of mi goreng and sake.
I’m saving my arse off atm. Worst case scenario is an igloo at the summit
Look for Accommodation in Kutchan (email to Real Estate’s, and make sure ya know all associated costs that go with rentals in Japan), share with as many as possible, shop at Co-op, eat Ramen, wax and tune ya own board, get the Early Bird Season Pass, and book Flights and Accommodation as early as possible!!!!!
I reckon ya can do it heaps cheaper in Japan, as opposed to say Nth America!!!!!
$3,000 if you live like a hobo
$10,000 on the cheap
$20,000 to do it in luxury (live in Thredbo and party like an animal)
I’ve done all the above. Including not working but it’s actually pretty boring if you don’t work.
The biggest advantage of work is it keeps you from getting trashed to early at night and doesn’t exclude you.
But then my work put me on the mountain, boarding each day (photographer/videographer).
You can apply the same costs but change the descriptions if you work.
$3,000 with a job on the hill that includes accom.
$10,000 if you get your own place
$20,000 for a bomb set up and work p/t (best option). Did this in 2011, worked delivering pizza in Thredbo and the odd waiter shift at the restaurant down stairs. Had a sick pad in the center of the village square. Chicks will throw themselves at you, you’ll party all night and board all day (if your up to it).
The occasional week will not be remembered when boardworld members stay for a week or weekend. That will happen at least 3-5 weeks during the season.
In saying all that you won’t find a place to rent in Thredbo or Perisher unless you’re very good friends with people who own buildings are have the kind of luck that wins lotteries.
In 15 years I’ve managed to snavel 3 places - and I know people.
Generally doing a season and working it’s unlikely to make any money unless you don’t drink - then you can end the season with a few grand. It took me 2 seasons to figure that out. It’s keeping up with the parties that is the biggest expense.
Biggest tip: don’t keep pace with those on holiday unless they’re paying. Leave your wallet at home if you go to the pub. My most profitable season was when I slept in the car and didn’t go out, stayed at work as long as I could to stay warm.

Cheers! Helps heaps. Can’t wait to follow winter. One more year and adios green machine
Easiest way to save your cash is only withdraw the money you want to party with. This way you won’t get wasted and lose your cash, cards and whole wallet.
Leave your wallet at home if you go to the pub.
If someone i went to a pub with “left” their wallet at home i would tell them where to go and wouldnt buy them shit unless they promised to pay me back the next morning.
But thats just me
Haha leave the wallet at home. I do that to the misso when we go shopping. She loves it
