hey guys and gals,
getting out of the army next year and was planning doing the season at perisher and then japan!
Has anyone done a season without working and if so how much did it cost you??
i want casual work in perisher but not japan… haha saving as much as i can atm in preperation (trying anyway)
info would help! cheers
How long is a piece of string!
Seriously it depends on soooo many variables.
I know guys who rented a flea infested hotel room and bought a microwave. They lived off Maccas (20 cent junior burgers & 30 cent Cheeseburgers sold once a week and they would stock up freeze and reheat on a daily basis - i am not kidding!)
It really depends on your quality of life you want!
If you want to snowboard as much as possible then Hukuba is prob your best bet in japan.
In Niseko I think it would be quite easy to get caught up in the seasonal staff party night/drinking sessions if you don’t have to get up for your job the next day.
Hey Mcgoo, welcome to Boardworld.
As ozgirl mentioned, it really depends on how you want to live/party/eat etc.
Costs you need to consider:

Season pass

Possible daily travel to and from mountain

Accommodation

Food

Equipment

Going out / drinks / partying

Obviously these costs could vary considerably based on your preferences and your situation. Maybe tell us a little bit more about your situation and how you would like to live (both in Australia and Japan) and we can be more specific with costs. Also, do you intend on working for Perisher? If so, free season pass right there.
It will cost you $567.50
It will cost you $567.50
567.50 that’s epic, want my credit card details now or later?
Yeh hopefully part time in perisher. No plans yet just seeing if anyone had done a season without working and what it cost them.
Just saving my arse off anyways. The plan is 4 back to back seasons. Just hav to wait now
Get a 3month posting OS and that will probably cover you for the season!
Haha did 6 last year. I’m good for a while lol worst part was there was snow when we got there. So close but yet so far
K2 is currently doing just that, a decent chunk of a season with out working. check out his thread

I think at least three times as much as that

I’ve almost done the whole season without working and got all my gear brand new. Even I don’t want to know the exact figure
I did the last two seasons in Whistler without working.
Main costs:
Early bird season pass - $1200 (always buy the early bird pass to save money).
Accommodation - $800 rent per month split half with my fiance, so $400 per month.
Food - I’m guessing about $60 a week at the grocery store.
Going out - easily spend probably the same as above on eating out and beer, which isn’t too bad for Whistler.
Transport - if needed. We had a car so it was probably about $50 in fuel every 2 to 3 weeks. Bus would have cost about $300 for a 6 month pass or something like that.
The cost that can really blow out is the “going out” cost. If you want to party and/or drink beer every day, it can certainly be a lot more than that. The key is to spend wisely here. Eat at home whenever you can, buy beer from the liqueur store and not the pubs/clubs, only go out to clubs once in a while etc.
Each resort will be different as well. Where are you thinking in Japan? From memory, lift passes and living costs are cheaper in Japan than I am quoting above.
Early Bird pass $1200??
Wasn’t it $700 last year?
Maybe that was just to get people hooked on skiing and boarding.
It will cost you $567.50
Does that include Toothpaste as well, as Toothpaste is very expensive these days!!!!!
