Poll: How far in advance do you plan snow trips? Total Votes: 16 |
|
---|---|
Season to Season | 3 |
Annually | 3 |
2 years in advance | 3 |
I’m spontaneous! Depend on which way the weather blows! | 6 |
15 to 20 minutes before | 1 |
So after spending a lot of yesterday email with another BWM about future trip plans I was thinking about how crazy some people would think I was planning trips so far in advance and back ups plans and 3rd options.
Long and the short of it is I have up to 3 ideas for next Nth Hem winter.
Plus I always know what I am doing in the Aussie season and always would take the opportunity to throw an NZ trip in there somewhere (prob 2014)
So the poll above.
Season to season - ie you wait for the current season is over before looking forward
Annually - you know what the following next 12 months is going to look like trip wise.
At least 2 years in advance
Or Spontaneity - you hate planning!
So I have a bunch of friends (besides BWM) who go away every year together, a week in Australia and 2 weeks in Northern Hem.
They vote on trips two years out. They are currently in Austria and before this weeks end will have voted on where the 2015 trip is. Next year is Steamboat.
So I have Steamboat next year. Sochi is still on the cards and well there is always Japan.
This Aussie winter… well its pretty much set in stone! There is always the shred plus my other groups trip.
What about everyone else?
Pretty spontaneous I guess in Oz. Normally decide a few days before the weekend, sometimes a week or 2 in advance if we go for a few days and people need to take time off work. Only been NoHe to snowboard once, but booked it all about 5 months in advance.
Only been in Aus so spontaneous it is!
Although there is thought of Canada for Christmas this yr… but that is just a thought at this stage.
Depends on the trip, I booked NZ both times about 6 months in advance. NoHe I booked about 3 weeks in advance. Big surfing boat trips were about 6 months in advance, Balie was about 4-5 weeks from memory and this Easter in Tonga about 6-7 weeks. Don’t think I could handle booking more than 6 months in advance, I prefer a little bit of spontaneity.
Big trip = Plenty of time to plan!!!!!
Small trip = Wing it!!!!! (Unless a sweet El’Cheapo Deal has come up at some stage)
All depends!!!!!
In aus ill just go as much as possible, just whenever i get a free weekend or more, pretty much no planning at all, besides for the shred.
A OS to NoHe, abit of planning just so i can get the moneys sorted
edit: i can put an almost 100% guarantee on me being in the NoHe for 2015—->
Post apprenticeship completion eh Dyldo?
Post apprenticeship completion eh Dyldo?
aawwwww sh*tcheeeaaaa
I’m planning niseko now for 2013/14 and prob start planning for perisher real soon.
Worst thing about army is they like to approve your leave a week before you go if not the day before. Lots of hoops
To jump through and paperwork to book early.
So here’s part of my point as well.
If i only have 4 weeks a year for annual leave I pretty much know what i am doing with them for at least the next two years…
So if someone throw a trip idea at me (beach or snow) I would have to give up something…
Overseas, it’s normally 6 months to a year. Buying a season pass was a year for Australia… but for 1/2 price it was pretty much a given.
I guess for you guys and gals in Australia, you need to plan ahead quite a bit since it’s pretty far to anywhere. Down Under!
If you live in Europe, most of the good resorts are a short distance away by way of rail or plane, so it’s possible to easily get there, and the infrastructure is such that getting around the Alps is a breeze. For eastern Europe, more advance planning is necessary, but then again, the tickets and accommodation are a bargain compared to Western Europe or the US / Canada.
I’m now in the habit of seeking out snow during my travels, and since most of my trips are business, I don’t even bring a board, just a backpack with my pants / boots, and stuff, and then rent a board or borrow one.
Hey Worldtripper, I wasn’‘t meaning OS trips exclusively. But Australia is pretty unique in the fact that we tend to ride northern and southern Hem so a lot of people do trips every 6 mths or so.
I was more talking about annual leave kind of thing.
I probably didn’t explain myself in my first post - so my current fist world prob is that if I won a holiday tomorrow. Even if I had a year to claim it I actually don’t know how i would do it without taking leave with out pay.
For me depends on the money. I will usually only do one day trip to Australian mountain like Buller, Hotham due to the cost of the mountains here. You don’t get much bang for your buck and I find I get bored quickly. I will be booking a NZ trip shortly if I can muster up some mates to come as the girl will be back in Europe for summer. I plan in advance but don’t lock it in til the last minute.
I’m always in the snow somewhere. So I’m planning the next southern winter and the northern winter after that while the current northern winter is still going.
I have to to make sure I make just enough cash to pay for flights, new gear when needed, car rego etc and bond/rent money.
I work all season just to break even.
I love my life, but it’s not as glamorous as some might think
