I miss Japow!  downer

Felt like I was watching my vid again during some of that. Looks like Japan turned it on at both Hokkaido and Honshu this year.

Personally it wasn’t a big concern to me. Where I was riding had a pretty decent base down. There was the occasional top of a tree poking out which wasn’t optimal but generally the tree runs were pretty clean. On piste there’s nothing to worry about other than the moguls under the deep layer of fresh Pow which can launch you around if you stiffen up. OOB was a different story as I came across some holes/cracks which are pretty nasty when you don’t see them to the last minute.

I worry about DRC getting stuck and not being able to get out since he rides alone in japow downer

Nawww I appreciate the concern Kim and it’s a fair point red face

To be honest I’m generally pretty conservative when it comes to risk taking (part of the reason you’ll rarely see me in the park)

Whilst riding on my own in Japow I was within earshot of the piste the majority of the time. The OOB riding in Nozawa was with 3 other guys so we all kept an eye out for each other but obviously that only helps so much.

Having said that though I accept snowboarding is inherently a risky sport and as my riding progresses so does the risk taking. The majority of the time I love shredding the Pow by myself but when I see some of the expeditions guys like k2 or trent have been up to recently I can certainly see the merit in group riding.

In the end it’s a risk/reward equation and I’m finding boarding VERY rewarding!  shaka

Hmmm glad to hear you are mostly safe

But I don’t buy the risk/reward thing with trees or off piste. (i get it for the park tho)

Personally you are down right stupid riding in trees alone. or off piste.

I like the idea that you are within ear shot but I hope that you never get knocked out and someone doesn’t see you downer

95% of my tree riding is by myself.
