iMac specs. Quick question.

Don’t buy RAM from Apple!
Especially at time of purchase if they could sell them without any RAM it would be nice.

You can get this for $164 inc. delivery with a free installation kit worth $109.
Then sell the brand new 4GB RAM you pulled out.
NEW 21.5” iMac 2012-Current
Intel Quad Core i5, i7

16.0GB (2 x 8.0GB) OWC PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz SO-DIMM 204 Pin RAM + Installation Tools

High Performance Mac RAM Memory from OWC. Rigorously in-house lab tested to ensure superior quality, compatibility and reliability. Australian Lifetime Replacement Warranty.

Don’t buy the apple USB drive.
I’m pretty happy with the one I have - Macfixit Archgon / Panasonic USB 2.0 Blu-Ray & DVD Burner. $149

Or go all out and get OWC Slim Portable USB Blu-Ray & DVD Burner + Toast 11 for $229

Or economically: Macfixit Slot-loading USB DVD burner for $59 (apple is $89)

Or really cheap: Macfixit Tray-loading USB DVD burner $39

I buy a lot of stuff through these guys, only ever had one issue (since 2009) and the owner of the company personally handled it.
I rate them as the best place to buy stuff online bar none.

I recently bought this little number off them for $39 and it works a treat - the reception is surprisingly good and I can record live TV on my phone, it even has it’s own battery so doesn’t deplete the phone/iPad’s.

You fairly desperate for a new machine Rider?

My homie and I were looking of upgrading from Macbook Pro on the next machine and getting the 21” iMac but after a discussion in a Mac reseller they advised they aren’t really worth spending the money on due to not being able to upgrade the ram that easy. I myself was fairy pissed off as past models had that option. The video card is fairly shit in the them :( another bummer for me.

I would save and go for the 27” or look in to the MacBook Pro range with external monitor. The little tweaks the 27” has is a good benefit over the time you have the desktop.

alright alright.. I guess I’ll be the one to start the flame war…

Why not just buy a PC???
Several reasons spring to mind for this….
- cheaper
- upgradable
- cheaper
- it’s not a MAC!!

michelle

Ahhhh I kid… I know you video and design peeps love your MACs ^_^

Hope you can get what you’re after Jez!! smile

MacPro all the way.
Stop fooling around with these consumer based rip offs or paying for small and portable (Macbook, iMac, MacMini).

More power.
More upgrades.
More ports.
More performance.
More value for money.

I’ve opened up and repaired/upgraded/maintained my own Macs for over 20 years, and there’s NO WAY I’d ever consider taking this route on any machine that was still under warranty. Those orange things are suction cups to pry the glass away from your LCD, so you can remove that to gain access to your logic board. No thanks.

Warranty void - fair call.

Steer away from new iMac.

can we not start with this shit again… lol

Gees you’re a bit jittery and I think you’ve jumped the gun!

No shit here that I could see… I made an observation which Chucky overall agreed with whilst adding an additional and valid counterpoint.

This thread has been quite productive (Jez asked a question and received a bunch of unanimous answers) until Anti came along and kicked the bees nest tongue wink

I might add that those “orange things” make great suction cup mounting hardware for actioncams after you’ve finished.

I’ll keep my fingers to myself on this one ha ha ha!

Yeh.. being a pc girl.. I’m keeping out of this.. as it will just start a fanboy debate and no one wins those..

I say buy what you think is right for you, obviously everyone has their own reasoning to buy certain products..

I used Macs in Tafe, and didn’t have a problem with them.. they just felt uncomfortable as the operating system was backwards to me ( by that I mean the menus are mirrored to windows..)

Also spaz, the gopro car mounts (like those suction cups) are awesome at getting dents out of cars… haha ( pulled a dent out of the back of a mates Ute with one)

I already have a MacBook Pro. I also have a pretty loaded up PC here. Always used PC and happy to keep using both. Both have their benefits (and disadvantages). I want the iMac more for work and college stuff (doing a graphic design course). The college/teachers want us using Mac for the course and I have been stoked with my MacBook Pro over the years, so happy to keep it going.

Yeah I’m a Mac fan especially for design work and they use them in the industry for a good reason. How new is your Macbook Pro? I have an ole banger from 07’ going strong.

Bought it in 2010 and still going very strong. I use it daily. Michelle had her MacBook for 6 years.

I do find it quite funny that they promote one system over another when really CS6 works fine on both and will work better on a good mac or good PC vs a shitty mac or PC.

The main issue people have is that they purchase a mac or PC, run it for 3+ years and then complain it’s slow. Then they get a new (other system) and think it’s king shit because it’s new and don’t remember what their old system was like when it was new…
